Crema's Take

Holy Grounds in Santa Monica is a uniquely welcoming spot that blends excellent coffee culture with genuine community purpose, housed in a cozy Catholic-themed space that feels like a gathering place rather than just a caffeine stop. Their iced house brew and frappes are standout drinks, and the shop smartly pairs quality coffee with surprisingly good food like savory tamales and homemade apple pie at reasonable prices. What really sets this place apart is the warmth of the experience—staff like Lucy clearly care about making visitors feel at home, and knowing your coffee dollars support the church's community mission adds a meaningful layer to every visit.

Easy to get in and out for a morning cup of coffee. Their iced house brew has a great taste, and is served at a reasonable price. Super helpful and friendly staff.

Amazing coffee and incredibly savory Tamales. The apple pie was also sublime. Everything is reasonably priced and there is such a good amount of religious items (e.g., books, rosaries, chaplets, prayer cards, etc) for sale.

Loved this coffee experience and what a brilliant way for the church to make both some revenue as well as community gathering. The coffee (particularly the frappe) was delicious and the place seems to be a lovely place to spend some time and get some work done as well.

Cozy little coffee shop with Catholic themes, which makes perfect sense given the name, location, and their mission. Love that it’s a coffee stop that gives back to the community. I came in on a Sunday morning and there were a few people in there enjoying their breakfast. I got a warm ham and cheese croissant, a chocolate espresso scone, and a pumpkin spice latte! Perfect way to kick off the fall season. The croissant was pretty oily-probably butter, but delicious nonetheless. The scone wasn’t too sweet, but a perfect match to the sweeter spiced latte. They have indoor seating, I saw one man sit a table with his lap dog.
