Crema's Take

Tucked into Joshua Tree's small-town landscape, this cozy café has earned serious loyalty with thoughtfully sourced ingredients that shine in everything from towering sandwiches to creamy avocado toast. The coffee is excellent and the pastries are fresh, but what really sets it apart is the genuine care evident in every dish—reviewers kept coming back multiple times during short trips because the food tastes like someone actually cares what you're eating. It's the kind of place that feels like a natural gathering spot, equally welcoming for a solo coffee moment or lingering with friends over a leisurely breakfast.

Stopped by 4 times on our 2 day trip to JT. Food is so fresh and delicious! We got farmer’s market salad twice, BLT, Turkey/Bacon/Cheese sandwich (twice), grilled cheese, quiche, sausage roll, breakfast sandwiches and so many yummy lattes (yes, we were HUNGRY). Highly recommend coming by to pick up premade goodies before heading into the park or coming out from the park and taking a break (it’s right by west park entrance). Staff is very friendly and they have lots of great snacks and chocolates to tempt you.

This place was great! We got the Greek salad and added a chicken skewer, well cooked and seasoned and the dressing was tasty. We also got the turkey club which was stacked high with meat and fresh veggies, salt and pepper on the tomatoes was cherry on top. Iced latte was also tasty. Overall great lunch and very reasonably priced for what you’re getting, highly recommend. Service was also excellent, we came in about 30 min to close and they packaged it to go but let us stick around and eat at a table.

Such a lovely little café! ☕️✨ Small, cozy, and clearly very thoughtful with their food. The avocado toast was super fresh 🥑 — creamy avocado, perfectly toasted bread, and crisp veggies on top. It just felt good to eat. The tuna toast was also great 🐟, definitely not canned, and nicely seasoned. I also had the vegetarian soup 🥣, which was warm, comforting, and perfect for a chill afternoon. The Joshua Tree coffee was excellent too — aromatic with a nice depth after the first sip ☕️🌵 A great spot to relax and slow down. Would happily come back 😊

The Big Dez in Joshua Tree is a level-up breakfast spot! The coffee was fantastic, and the food did not disappoint — we had a delicious breakfast sandwich and a yummy quiche cup with a side of bacon. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Funny enough, we actually stumbled upon this place after walking out of another nearby breakfast spot that had lots of stars but not much hospitality. The staff there avoided eye contact, looked annoyed to see people coming in, and after making us wait awkwardly for 10 minutes, they told a group behind us it would be “about 15 minutes” — not likely, since there were already 5 groups ahead of them. Leaving turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because otherwise we never would have discovered The Big Dez! The vibe is welcoming, the service is friendly, and the food/coffee combo made our morning. Highly recommend checking this place out when you’re in Joshua Tree!

My friends and I had a great meal at The DEZ before heading into Joshua Tree. The place is busy, understandably so, since the town is small, there’s not so many places to go, and there are a lot of park tourists passing through. However, seating was open, and it was comfortable and had a good vibe. We ordered a breakfast sandwich, lox bagel, lamb pie, quiche, and coffee. Everything was really good, but the breakfast sandwich I had was delectable. The thick-cut bacon was juicy and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The lamb pie was really tasty as well, and had a great aromatic rosemary flavor. It’s a bit pricey, but that’s standard for Joshua Tree, since so many people from LA and San Diego are passing through. The staff are friendly, on top of stuff, and easygoing. I recommend checking it out when you’re in town!
