Crema's Take
“This Berkeley café channels its mission of supporting refugees into a welcoming, thoughtfully designed space where you can linger over carefully crafted drinks and house-made pastries like their standout mochi muffins. The menu balances comforting classics like cappuccinos and lattes with creative specialty options like strawberry lychee matcha, all served by baristas who add personal touches like latte art—making it perfect for meeting friends or settling in for a slow afternoon. While some find the coffee leaning toward the sweeter side, the combination of purposeful community work, clean upscale interiors, and genuine hospitality keeps regulars coming back.”

Love the mission and nice menu of items! The mochi muffin was delicious, loved the texture. The strawberry lychee matcha was okay. I appreciate the barista made a heart with the foam and showed me before capping the cup. Close to campus and great additional outdoor space in the back!
Not particularly thrilled with this coffee shop. The coffee was a little excessively sweet - not as first taste but after a few sips you realize it starts to hit you. Also didn’t taste the coffee as much as the milk.. and the pastries were not good at all. They were tasteless and rather dry. Also, the location was oddly quiet? Like I know it’s a coffee house but literally libraries are louder.. felt very awkward. Anyways, my experience was not wonderful - and I should add it’s not cheap either (to be expected by still).
Coffee shop for a good cause in Berkeley. The coffee shop was established to help refugee. Interior is neat and it has written on the wall about the coffeshop. It has plenty of choices of coffee drink and selection of pastries. You ordered from a touch screen kiosk. All the drink and pastries which we ordered were yummy. I love the atmosphere inside. It is quite and feel nice inside. There are parking on the street close to the shop and I also see parking garage.
Went here with 3 of my friends and ordered hot chocolate, a vanilla latte, and a matcha latte. All three of us enjoyed our drinks. The interior is also very nice. Clean, well decorated, and plenty of outlets for studying. Seating might be slightly hard to come by. Still, it's a great place to spend a rainy day.
Good coffee in clean, upscale interior space with cafe style outdoor tables for enjoying a sunny day. Cappuccino and cortado were good though lacking intense aromas, thick crema and strong arabica notes I’ve come to expect from top tier coffee shops. Chocolate croissant was dry - likely a day old pastry given it was Memorial Day. This establishment roasts its own beans which I appreciate. My son previously purchased beans here from which we made good coffee at home, however, did not buy on today’s visit. The draw of this establishment appears to be its financial support of Bay Area refugees and large, quiet inside space which many patrons were enjoying while working on their laptops. There is also a sitting area with soft chairs in a quiet corner. If milder coffee is your preference - my palate prefers strong Italian espresso flavors - 1951 Coffee Company could be a good choice.
