Water Street Coffee Joint
3037 Oakland Dr, Kalamazoo, MI
Crema's Take
“This Kalamazoo spot strikes that rare balance between a serious coffee destination and a genuinely welcoming hangout, where baristas are known for their warmth as much as their winter spice lattes and creative signature drinks. The vibe is decidedly slow-paced and laptop-friendly, perfect for settling in with housemade pastries and vegetarian-forward light food, though consistency with technique like oat milk steaming could use some attention. With nearly 750 positive reviews, it's clearly earned its reputation as the kind of place where even delivery drivers get offered a complimentary cup.”

I visited midday and there were just a handful of customers in the café. My friend and I ordered lattes and they didn’t have any mugs available and even asked if we could share a plate for our pastries. It’s not an upscale experience drinking out of a paper cup. I also try to limit my carbon footprint by not using disposable products.
Love the friendly baristas and cozy atmosphere. The winter spice latte and loaded biscuit are a favorite way to start the day. Large selection of vegetarian and vegan options along with other housemade treats.
I just want to say I’m an instacart driver, I had a delivery to this coffee joint today and I can’t even describe how friendly and nice the staff were. Even offered me a drink! Definitely accepted a coca-cola haha. I just want to say thank you so much for being so kind! Not much of it left anymore. More specifically it was two young ladies working!
Today, I visited Water Street Coffee, and it certainly won't be my last. I popped in and snagged two bags of coffee, along with a small cup of their signature light roast brew to savor on the go. The experience was seamless. Can't wait to brew up a taste of this excellence at home!
I ordered a small cappuccino with oat milk. Unfortunately, Water Street lacks proper barista education on how to steam oat milk. It was way too hot and not frothed at all. Maybe the oat milk was old, too. Also… I don’t trust a coffee shop to serve cappuccino in a 12oz cup. That's not a cappuccino. I also got a drip coffee, and the Ethiopian beans tasted good, but I think they don't control the brew temperature, and the coffee was too hot. I liked the atmosphere and service, but it seemed commercial. I got Ethiopian natural beans, and these were delicious and well-balanced but with great fruity flavors, so kudos for their roasters.
