Crema's Take

Tucked into Hanalei, this cozy bakery is beloved for its exceptional biscuits and smooth lattes, drawing crowds eager for an unhurried morning that feels like a local secret. The warm, family-friendly atmosphere makes it perfect for lingering over pastries and light breakfast, though the dining-in surcharge means many regulars opt to take their order to Hanalei Bay nearby. Fair warning: skip the breakfast burrito and arrive early to beat the weekend rush.

The biscuit is great, skip the breakfast burrito. The latte is also good. There's a weird surcharge for dining in, just to note. Might be more worth it to take it to go.

Sweet, Simple, and Burrito-Regretful at Hanalei Bread Company Sweet and simple. That’s both the vibe at Hanalei Bread Company and what I thought my breakfast experience would be. Spoiler: it was sweet, simple, and full of important life lessons. Not wanting yet another bagel for breakfast, I called an audible and veered sharply away from the family agenda to pursue a hot breakfast. Hanalei Bread Company sits smack in the middle of the Hanalei shopping block, perfectly positioned to tempt you with smells of coffee and baked goodness while everyone else pretends they’re fine with smoothies. After a short wait, we ordered what felt like one of everything on the menu, minus the waffle. Unfortunately, we all wanted the breakfast burrito. A bold decision was made to “share” one. This turned out to be a classic case of different definitions of the word share. To one person, it meant taste. To the rest of us, it meant fair distribution. Grumble. I ended up with the breakie sandwich, which was good. Respectably good. But it was not the breakfast burrito. The avocado toast went to another member of the party and was filling, wholesome, and still… not the breakfast burrito. Meanwhile, the planner of all agendas wisely settled on the açaí bowl and was perfectly content, as this was exactly what she would have ordered at the nearby bagel-smoothie establishment anyway. We all grabbed different versions of coconut iced lattes, which were excellent and kept us thoroughly caffeinated for our drive to the end of the road. Breakfast was enjoyed in a lovely covered open-air dining area that spills out into picnic tables in a grassy yard. Once you’re done eating, the surrounding shops make it easy to linger, wander, and digest both food and feelings for a couple of hours. The lesson here is simple and important: always order your own breakfast burrito, and never place your happiness in someone else’s pocket. Especially before coffee.

This place serves breakfast and we decided to try based on reviews here. There was quite a line around 10 am, so we had to wait around 30 min to order. Avocado toast and other sandwiches is what we asked for and its a bit pricey. We had to seat outside and the food was brought to us. I can state that the taste was good and up to expectations, would recommend to visit, bear in mind the orderes are taken only till noon.

We recommend coming here early, having this delicious breakfast then checking out Hanalei Bay, followed by shopping at Ching Young Marketplace. This place is cozy and open, with a friendly staff and had several indoor and outdoor places to sit. They have bread for sale, as well as a pastry case and a menu you can order from to go or to stay. We ordered the avacado toast, breakfast burrito and a mango “cannoli” (it was cannoli shaped but was a croissant). As well as some coffees! We loved all of it! They really loaded up the avacado on the toast, the breakfast burrito was hot and fresh served with fresh avacado and the “cannoli”?! That pastry was flaky, buttery and perfection. I almost didn’t halve it with my husband because I didn’t want to share. (I did in fact share with him because I love him and he is the one who bought breakfast.) 😉

My friends recommended Hanalei bread company for breakfast. They said it was the best breakfast they had while staying in Kauai. So, we decided to go. It was a Saturday and very busy. We ordered the apple ricotta toast, peanut butter toast, brekkie sandwich, but sandwich and the roasted vegetable sandwich. The apple ricotta toast was good, but the apple wasn't very flavorful and the toast didnt have much flavor overall. The peanut butter toast was good and simple. The brekkie sandwich was good but the feta overpowered the rest of the flavors in it. The blt was good; but the vegetable sandwich was by far the best tasting thinf we got. Warm and full of flavor and a variety of vegetables. It was a bit pricey so be warned. Overall a okay experience but maybe we got the wrong items but check it out if you love bread. (Wait time was 20 minutes)
