Crema's Take

Kissako Tea is a petite San Francisco spot that brings authentic Japanese convenience store vibes to the Mission, specializing in handmade onigiri and fresh-daily mochi that arrives from their San Jose production facility. While the rice-forward riceballs won't dazzle everyone, the individually wrapped presentation, quick service, and bargain prices make it perfect for grabbing an authentic snack between errands—just arrive during off-peak hours to skip the inevitable crowds. The family-friendly counter also slings matcha tea and seasonal wagashi like mochi and chestnut cakes for those looking beyond rice.

Amazing onigiri and wagashi (mochi, chestnut cakes, and other seasonal treats)

I visited a small stand in a crowded area and waited around 5-10 minutes during peak hour at 4pm. I ordered the haru mochi and spam onigiri, but unfortunately, neither dish impressed me. The haru mochi was overly sweet, while the spam onigiri was too salty. Customer service was good with two employees working the stand, and was easily accessible. Would probably go back to give it a second chance.

I don’t even want to tell you people about it, but that just seems so selfish. The mochi here is REALLY good-they bring it in fresh every day, production is in San Jose. Which is great because it’s so good, but bad because in my experience they start running out late afternoon. There isn’t much to say, it’s just really high quality and fresh. It is a little bit on the sweeter side though. The made to order red bean paste snacks are awesome as well, only reason I don’t get them every time I go is because I get so much mochi.

Good onigiris! They also come individually wrapped, just like typical Japanese konbini. Quick service and low price for a little snack. Beware it gets very busy! Came during a slow week day and even though they were churning onigiris left and right, I still waited ~10min to get mine (~10 customers before me). Super recommend!
