Crema's Take

Picnic Cafe has cultivated something rare: a genuinely communal neighborhood gathering spot that takes both coffee and creativity seriously, whether you're ordering a banana cream pie matcha or settling in for one of their Wednesday-Friday popup dinners hosted by local small business chefs. The seasonal and signature drinks like their beloved Lychee Rose Matcha Latte showcase a playful sophistication that goes beyond standard cafe fare, while the welcoming, unhurried atmosphere and excellent pastries make it equally perfect for a solo work session or meeting friends. This is the kind of place where regulars keep returning because it feels less like a transaction and more like coming home.

Picnic is my neighborhood coffee shop. It’s wonderful, welcoming and so communal. Try going to dinner here when they host small business chefs/cooks, it’s amazing. Pictured is the oatmeal and dill pickle cream cheese bagel.

My favorite coffee spot. The banana cream pie matcha is to die for. Mellow banana taste with delicious matcha. Not overly sweet. I love it! I’ve grown tired of coffee shops with club like music, but Picnic always plays stunning tracks (I’m lowkey always shazaming). I adore the atmosphere and the staff is fantastic. My drinks are consistently good and the snacks are so good too.

My favorite coffee shop in Salt Lake County!! (or even the whole Utah?) I am obsessed with their Lychee Rose Matcha Latte, although it's just their seasonal drink (please make it a permanent one 🥹). It's honestly the only thing I order here (guilty!) Their Feta and Balsamic Hand Pie as well as Gochujang Scone are very delicious. I always get those if stop here for quick breakfast. My sister loves the corn ice cream and said it tasted like our homemade corn milk. The place can be quite busy during the weekend and there might not be enough seating but the service is always great. The staffs are all very friendly and attentive. Some of them even remember my order, which makes me feel so special.

Went here for the Xilonen pop up dinners they serve wed-fri and it was amazing. We ordered both vegan dinner entrees and a roasted veggies and mole appetizer. The chef brought out 2 sipping cups of his amazing local pumpkin soup and chatted with us about it. He grows his own food at a garden in West Valley! I'll be back for dinner for sure! Oh and the home made avocado ice cream is amazing. I'll also be going back there for the coffee and vegan snacks they have as well.

I recently discovered Picnic Cafe and have visited 3 times since discovery. They may not be known for their everything bagels but they are very good for SLC. Each time, I have ordered an iced strawberry matcha and my partner usually drinks an iced latte. The iced latte's are good and reliable. The iced raspberry matcha is on the sweeter side, in my opinion. The sweetness is not overwhelming but is notable compared to my other go-to matcha spot. They have a quaint inside seating area with spots to get work done. If you're there to chat, their outdoor patio is where I'd choose to sit. Parking throughout the neighborhood around, there are not assigned spots available. My one complaint is that they open at 8 am. I would love to occasionally stop by on my way to work but that is far to late. I haven't been to any other coffee shops in SLC that aren't open until 8.
