Quill & Crumb
201 E Capitol St SE, Washington, DC
Crema's Take
“Tucked inside the stunning Folger Shakespeare Library, Quill & Crumb offers a genuinely special atmosphere with soaring gallery windows and cozy nooks that make lingering over your laptop feel like a literary escape. While the food quality can be inconsistent, the real draw here is the architectural beauty and peaceful weekday vibe—arrive on a quieter morning when you can actually snag a booth and settle in with a proper Earl Grey and pastry.”

All the social media posts about this library made us want to check it out. What a disappointment… The sandwiches and salad weren’t fresh nor were the pastries. The passive aggressive and unhelpful staff made it even worse. Great looking library though and the subtle Christmas decorations were nice.
I stopped by for lunch on a Friday. It was busy but there was no line at the cafe and food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the cauliflower flatbread and an early grey tea. There are plenty of places to sit and eat but it's quite loud. Downstairs there are a couple tables where it is quieter but the atmosphere is not as majestic. I went there to read and was not able to focus but it's a nice option for meeting up with a friend.
You can’t beat the atmosphere here! Located inside the Folger Shakespeare library, the Quill & Crumb Cafe has gorgeous galley-style windows and plenty of comfortable booth, table & chairs and couch seating for the coffee, tea, sandwiches and fresh bakery options. I ordered the house made peach ginger iced tea and Apple Brie melt, and would 10/10 order again.
Quill & Crumb Café is located in a beautiful building with a really lovely atmosphere. definitely a great spot if you appreciate architecture and cozy vibes. That said , I wouldn’t set very high expectations for the coffee itself. It’s fine, but not particularly memorable. Worth stopping by for the space and ambiance, just not for exceptional coffee and food.
Very nice place for breakfast. A little difficult to find a place to sit during the weekends but on weekdays it’s much easier to secure a spot to have breakfast! The pastries were delicious, we ordered some to go.
