Luce Coffee Roasters
2520 Washington Ave, Houston, TX
Crema's Take
“Luce Coffee Roasters has earned genuine affection from regulars who praise the friendly staff and creative seasonal drinks like their beloved Island Latte, though the espresso-focused menu shines brightest for those who linger over quality rather than grab-and-go convenience. The vibe skews welcoming and fun, making it a natural gathering spot in Houston, though some recent visitors have noted inconsistency in both drink execution and cleanliness that's worth keeping in mind. If you're seeking inventive specialty drinks in a genuine neighborhood setting where the baristas actually know your name, this is the kind of place that inspires loyalty—just maybe visit during their cleaner moments.”

The place was very dirty upon my last visit, with dirty tables, and no attempt to clean them between customers. There were some 5-10 minute gaps where that could have easily been done. And, the ladies room was closed, the men’s bathroom was filthy. Again, plenty of time to check between guests. As for the service, the guy who took my order was really nice, but the barista/manager was rude. I was feeling low blood sugar effects and they were mostly out of food, so I asked for honey on the side with my unsweetened (as I like it) cold brew. He emphatically said “No!”, they can only dissolve it in hot water and put it IN the coffee. Huh? I thought honey was liquid? So I asked for just a shot glass of “dissolved” honey on the side. NO! I was obviously willing to pay extra, and I mentioned my low blood sugar. NO! This same guy went out and brought back a bunch of bananas about 45 mins later. Did he mention that to me since I was working and didn’t see them immediately? NO! I bought one for $1 after he’d left.
The service was very fast. The drinks were good and the atmosphere here was fun.
This is my favorite local coffee shop! Everyone there is friendly and welcoming. The drinks are outstanding (my favorite is the Island Latte). Check out their seasonal offerings throughoutthe year, like the Fallchata, the red velvet or the pistachio latte.
Coffee was really good the first day I tried it. The second day it wasn’t quite the same so I asked for extra sweetness when ordering. The lady told me that it’s already really sweet so I don’t need to add that. Once I got my coffee, I realized that it wasn’t sweet and that I couldn’t taste the hazelnut so I asked if more could be added. They acted a little annoyed and put oat milk in it, but didn’t add any hazelnut and said it’ll be fine. Long story short I just paid eight dollars for a coffee and they wouldn’t fix it.
I rarely leave a negative review, or maybe my first time. I have been a loyal customer to Luce since they opened their first location in Greenway Plaza. I still like going there to have coffee. This is my first time coming to this location along with my friends, after I recommended this coffee shop. I was in a complete shock. The Latte was looking like I bought it from a gas station not a specialty coffee shop. The manager was extremely rude about it. The food was burned during warm up process. Unfortunately I won’t come to this location again. I think I won’t go to other locations after me seeing them loosing professionalism in handling their business. Very sad with my experience and loosing such long term loyal business with them.
