Joe Muggs Cafe
1201 Main St, Houston, TX
Crema's Take
“Nestled inside a Books-A-Million in Houston, Joe Muggs Cafe pairs thoughtful espresso work with a genuinely cozy refuge for readers and remote workers alike. While service can be inconsistent, the baristas who get it really get it—reviewers rave about meticulously crafted cappuccinos—and the recently remodeled seating (a mix of sofas, high chairs, and tables) creates the kind of comfortable, quiet atmosphere that actually makes you want to linger with a book and a cold brew.”

Brought a Carmel coffee not too much coffee just foam… Very disappointed…
I wanted to order 1 latte and have my tumbler filled with drip coffee, because the worker didn't understand their own pricing or that usually a refill is cheaper, as it saves the price of a cup, so to at least be fair just charge the price of a large 20oz coffee and fill the 28oz mug a little less. Your store a sell of black because the barista can't think at all. Literally couldn't figure out something as simple as price per fl oz that would allow a correct uncharged to be added even if sold without a refill discount (at Starbucks it's only 10 cents anyways) I use the mug because it keeps liquid very hot for a while, so I can enjoy the latte and have my coffee later.
I got a cup of coffee so that I could drink it while I walked around. Looking at books. I will say that the guy behind the counter smoked his breakfast. He didn't seem to know what was going on and it was taking a really long time for him to help the person in front of me. Not like 2 minutes but well over five to get a cup of coffee and a muffin I thought was a little extended. He kept coming back and asking her what she ordered. I suppose in the end we both got what we ordered eventually.
The barista was fantastic. I've never seen someone make a cappuccino so carefully, and the taste reflected that. It's a quiet, comfortable bookstore Cafe. Worth going to even if you aren't book shopping
A great place to come and have some quite time to read, work, or just relax. They are attached to a large Books A Million and have plenty of options for cold or hot drinks as well as some beer or wine if you so desire.
