Legends on Main
102 W Main St, Newark, DE
Crema's Take
“This unassuming Main Street spot punches well above its weight with genuinely good breakfast and lunch food that escapes the staleness of chain restaurants, anchored by quality touches like real sausage patties and French toast that justify a detour. The drink selection goes beyond coffee shop basics, and the service genuinely shines—staff like Naomi clearly care about making your visit feel personal rather than transactional. It's the kind of place where you can actually taste the difference between homemade care and shortcuts, making it worth seeking out whether you're a local or just passing through Newark.”

I am not a local and was passing through to grab breakfast. I ordered french toast and hash browns with a side of sausage, as well as a hot chocolate to drink. The food quality was really good, as was the service. It is not an artisanal restaurant and is much more of a solid at-home quality delicious food. The french toast serving is large, with 3 slices of a thicker-cut bread dusted with powdered sugar. The sausage is prepared by hand, so not a perfect disk. The hash browns were crispy and soft on the inside. The hot chocolate was perfect. The cost of the meal was right around $20, with the meal itself around $16. I'm from the DC area, so this was super reasonable. Worth it! The server's name is Naomi, and she was really attentive. Drinks were quickly refilled. Overall, accolades on the service. I wish I took photos!
Haven't been out for breakfast in a long time. All those chain restaurants dull food, bland or over salted. Even the coffee shops, whether chain or Mom & Pop with mostly sandwiches over the years lost it's appeal for that good old fashion hometown breakfast. Today, I stopped in Legends on Main, I found, people dining, enjoying the food. Laughter and chatter filling the background as they shared each others company. The sounds of dishes chattering, food chopping, cash register bell chiming, was like an old harmony that just found its melody! I felt like I stepped back in time 20 years! I sat alone at the bar was greeted with a smile and a friendly tone. It was a "welcome back home" feel. Like they were glad I came. Imagine that! I wanted something simple. I went for chipped beef over home fries! Homemade that morning, did not disappoint! Not to salty and bland it was not! Stick to your ribs yummy!!! The cook Brian humbly asked how it was and of course, delicious! My server, Naomi with her happy spirit checked on me often and made sure all was good. Excellent staff! Watching them work together was like a well played theater performance! Greeted. ✔️ Service Excellent ✔️ Food exceed my expectations ✔️ Atmosphere feel like a time machine to the good 'ole days. ✔️ Stay Strong Legends on Main! May you never lose your hometown charm! The best tip I could ever leave behind! Thank you! Ya'll rock!
We heard that Turkiye Kebab House Mediterranean Cuisine was going to start serving breakfast so we decided to head over. On the way. We realized they weren't open quite yet and so we looked for something close to where we were that had good reviews. Legends on Main fit, the bill. The food service and atmosphere did not disappoint. They are in the process of putting up a mural for each window at the entrance outside. They have contracted someone from the arts council. You can see it all taped up and ready to be painted in the photos. We will definitely be back to see how it looks and have another meal. I was hemming and hawing between two different options and asked the server for a little more detail on both. He answered like he was preparing a five-star restaurant menu description. No surprise. Once I found out that he was a trained chef. He made the food come to life in his words and I couldn't wait to order and eat my breakfast. My husband got the breakfast bowl with Grandma's biscuit. All the thumbs up! I got the avocado toast and a single pancake which is not on the menu but is available to order. All the thumbs up! We had coffee which came with oat milk for me and was delicious. I commented on the coffee to Jason, the server, and he said it wasn't even their regular one. They had gotten it by mistake. I'm not sure what made it so good. Maybe it was the cinnamony notes in it but it was delicious. I asked Jason to record his description of the avocado toast and that created a little bit of a raised eyebrow from the employees seeing me videotaping him. But that led to us having a very nice chat with the owner and meeting him made us like the place even more. Now on to the bathroom. I'm sorry to say it is not the A+ that I would give the rest of the place. The toilet was a hovercraft model... girls, IYKYK. But really that's my only complaint. It was a gender-neutral single stall and plenty big for a wheelchair. C minus but I would use it again. Pee or pass? A solid pee.
Unassuming breakfast and lunch spot with a nice drink selection, good food, and great service (Naomi). Nice to see real sausage patties that weren't straight out of a box. My wife enjoyed the sausage gravy. Recommend.
Ordered for the first time and was disappointed with my food. Ordered pulled pork sandwich with a cup of tomato bisque and tater tots. The meat of the polled pork is dry and tough, the bbq sauce seems to be mixed in be for serving, so the meat did not absorb the flavor and moisture from the sauce. The tots is just average, I had this for take out, so it wasn’t quite as freshly fried when I eat it (~15 mi). The tomato bisque was the one thing I like with this order, flavorful and smooth soup for the cold weather.
