Harder Day Coffee

5331 S Macadam Ave, Portland, OR

Crema's Take

This bright, quietly cozy spot in Portland excels at both espresso and a thoughtfully curated menu that spans perfectly flaky croissants, full breakfasts, and surprisingly good tea options like their house-made rosemary sage London fog. The experienced staff genuinely cares about your experience, though service can be leisurely even when it's not busy, so settle in and enjoy the soft lighting and gentle vibe—it's equally perfect for a focused work session or meeting a friend. Fair warning: they recently stopped making their own syrups, which longtime regulars miss, but the quality of their core espresso work and pastries more than makes up for it.

💯 Amazing espresso quality Sad that they recently stopped making their own syrups – those will be missed! (Too bad they couldn't do the thing NEVER coffee does, with premium combos) Still, the chai with lavender added is quite tasty 🙂

Very cute little place, very clean and bright. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, and quietly cozy. Light music and soft light. Delicious chocolate croissant! Sooo flaky and buttery. A must for Portland coffee lovers.

Atmosphere was nice but we had to pay to park and it took 25 minutes to get our coffee and breakfast sandwiches (there were only 4 other people in the coffee shop). Upon receiving them, our coffees were lukewarm at best. Sadly, the atmosphere does not negate the lackluster experience here.

Friendly, experienced staff, well crafted espresso, and quality eats. Unique combination of beer and wine and happy hour daily. Typically something gluten free too, and on warm days roll-up garage door to outdoor patio seating. All-in-all a great place to take a break, unwind, recharge!

What a treat to have them next to my dentist! Super friendly service. Great tea options - don’t miss the London fog with house made rosemary sage! The biggest croissants I’ve ever seen. Try their strawberry oatmeal bar, too. 😉
