Brown Street Coffee & Bánhery

Crema's Take

This Philadelphia spot brilliantly bridges two worlds: a serious espresso program that crafts creative drinks like their peanut brittle latte alongside authentic Vietnamese bánh mì that locals genuinely crave. Beyond the coffee and sandwiches, you'll find themselves equally invested in quality bagels and full breakfast options, creating a uniquely hybrid space that feels equally at home as a quick caffeine stop or a leisurely meal with family. The vibe leans casual and welcoming, though the coffee quality occasionally outshines the kitchen—but when everything clicks, it's the kind of place that earns devoted repeat visits.

This place never disappoints! Really good banh mi-- doesn't beat the banhi mi in South Philly, but if you acknowledge that it's its own thing, you won't be mad at it at all. I typically get the original (pate) and tofu. They get pretty busy but the staff are communicative, capable, and super friendly. They seem like a tight knit group, and it comes across positively in their service. It's a cozy place to hang out with a cup of coffee. I wish they would do away with the big bench seating to make room for more people, but I also kind of like that it limits seating.

The hot coffee is why it lost a star, but the tofu Bánh mì was delicious. My boyfriend said Wow when he took a bite. The sauce was really good. It was well balanced. The bread was great even though it was not a traditional baguette.

Their bagels are actually really good, one of the few instances I feel like it's worth buying a single bagel from a cafe rather than having one at home from the grocery store. Sesame is my favorite. (Note they are VERY generous with the cream cheese so if you prefer less you should mention it when ordering.) Also the staff are all really sweet :)

Really really tasty korean bbq banh mi but the coffee (peanut brittle latte) was lacking. customer service wasn’t great either, but overall, i’d definitely come back! banh mi was worth it!

tried brown street coffee for the first time, and i will definitely be back! i got an iced oat milk peanut brittle latte- excellent taste and consistency. the hipster sandwich was really good and came out quickly. prices are reasonable. i also loved the atmosphere, very lively with places to sit inside and outside!
