Crema's Take
“Civic On Eighth brings a genuinely warm neighborhood energy to its beautifully designed space, where you'll find carefully crafted espresso drinks (their hazelnut latte is a standout) paired with pastries and light bites from local bakeries like Souk. Whether you're stopping by for a quick flat white or settling in with your laptop, the personal service and relaxed ambiance make it equally welcoming for a solo coffee session or a casual meeting with friends.”

Best Coffee I had in town for whole week. (Flat white). Choice of sweets was limited on the Saturday afternoon, but was supper happy with my coffee and relaxing ambience. Was pretty quiet regardless of the full coffee shop.
Lovely and cozy cafe. Service is personal and friendly. Coffee is great!
Came in around 11 on a Saturday, was decently busy but the line moved quick and there is tons of seating so I was easily able to get a seat. Ham and cheese croissant and jamaican patty were both decent, their espresso drinks are excellent. Looking forward to coming again in the future!
Superficially, Civic's hazelnut latte is among the best I've had in Washington, D.C. The coffee (Swings) is good, the cream creamy, the flavor balanced, and not overly or under sweet. It's perfect. (They have a full coffee menu with baristas who are artisans, pastries from Souk, and soon alcohol.) On a deeper level. Civic is an act of activism. In a season of darkness in the country, Civic is a warm space where all are welcome to not just be but connect with each other. Creating a beautiful space, Civic is about building in person community. It's missional. If you love good coffee, beautiful spaces, or community, head to this cafe/gathering place along Barracks Row. It's easy to get to with the Eastern Market Metro right there!
Welcome to the neighborhood, CIVIC!! We are thrilled you are here! There is a warm and welcoming vibe in this beautifully revamped space, plus delicious Swing’s coffee and baked goods from Souk. Cocktails coming soon. What’s not to love? The CIVIC team has thought of every detail, across decor, food and service. You wouldn’t know that this is only their third day open. Can’t wait to see what’s next! ✨✨
