La Monarca Bakery & Cafe
5835 N Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA
Crema's Take
“This Highland Park gem excels at what it does best: freshly baked Mexican pastries and traditional drinks that feel like they're made with genuine care. Whether you're grabbing warm conchas and café de olla for a quick morning ritual or settling in for hours with their standout tres leches cake, the bright, welcoming space and reliable quality keep locals coming back. The real magic here is the bakery itself—think pillowy conchas and flaky pan dulce that rival anything you'd find in Mexico City, paired with thoughtfully made hot chocolate and spiced coffee drinks.”

My favorite place for Mexican hot chocolate and wedding cookies. Prepackaged cookies with different flavors are also available. Quick and friendly service, clean w/ lots of tables & chairs and bathrooms. It's a chain restaurant in LA so not much atmosphere.
La Monarca’s conchas are perfect for an early morning sugar fix — light, pillowy, and still warm when I got there. I tried their cafe de olla and it had a gentle cinnamon note that wasn’t overly sweet. The staff were friendly and wrapped my pastries carefully for takeout. The bakery has a bright, welcoming vibe that makes it easy to linger with a laptop. Great spot for a neighborhood coffee-and-pastry pit stop
La Monarca is my go-to for fresh pastries and great coffee. Their tres leches cake is amazing—moist and not overly sweet. The decor is warm and inviting, with bright colors and Mexican-inspired art. Service is friendly and efficient. I also like their organic Mexican coffee, which has a rich, smooth flavor. It’s a great spot for a casual breakfast or afternoon snack.
Best Bakery in Highland Park. The baked goods are so delicious and fresh. The young lady that works as a baker makes the fluffiest items that taste better than any French bakery in Los Angeles California. The customer service is great and they are lead by a excellent customer service friendly store manager. I think they also have the best prices of any of the other bakery's in town.
Sitting here now..I'm disgusted but can't afford to waste my money. Pastry and price is good but their burritos sucks. 9 dollars for some little cheap warmed up burrito that looks like the chimichangas you buy at Walmart. Quality is no Bueno. Don't order them unless your okay with paying more for less.
