For Five Coffee Roasters
200 State St, Boston, MA
Crema's Take
“For Five Coffee Roasters is a cozy, quiet escape tucked inside an office building that punches well above the typical corporate café. The baristas really shine here—they're patient and knowledgeable, happily walking you through creative signature drinks like their Gotham Mocha or those inventive seasonal specials (the lavender macadamia matcha latte is a standout). If you're settling in with a laptop or meeting a friend, pair your expertly-pulled espresso or pour over with one of their excellent house-made croissants or oversized cookies, and you'll understand why people rave about this hidden gem.”

There was a sign outside for a lavender macadamia matcha latte, so we went inside on a whim. We got the iced lavender macadamia matcha latte and the iced honey oatmilk latte. Both were excellent. The matcha was whisked in front of us with the proper bowl and whisk, and it wasn't bitter at all. The oatmilk latte was super creamy, and the espresso also wasn't bitter or overly strong. I was pleasantly surprised by this little place and would definitely go back again. Very friendly barista, and the drinks were made very fast.
The barista was super kind and patient! He explained what some of their named drinks were to me - I ended up getting the Gotham Mocha (basically a dark chocolate mocha) with macadamia milk and the strawberry cookie. Both were very tasty! My only complaint is the pricing. $0.95 for plant based milk is a little steep, and the price for the large isn't on their price menu by the register, only small and medium. $17 for a cookie and coffee was a little steep for me. If they could also update or take down the prices on the letter board it would make it a bit less confusing how much everything costs.
Really nice hidden gem and not at all like a typical coffee shop provided in an office building. The coffees and teas here are very good quality. I got a matcha latte and literally watched them sift the matcha in front of me. Very beautiful earthy taste, just as you’d want your matcha latte to be. Didn’t get a chance to try the cookies, but they looked amazing and would definitely come back for an afternoon snack.
The café is quiet and cozy, they don’t have a wide variety of food, but if you’re looking for something light to satisfy your hunger, I recommend the croissants, I loved them! Also, the cookies are to die for, especially the caramel with cinnamon and apple one. Regarding the drinks, I liked the house special called “the Louie”. To finish, the baristas are lovely. Note: They have several non-dairy milk options. They don’t have gluten-free food.
Well made espresso drinks and made in house giant cookies. Worth the stop, even if you don't work in the building! Update: they fired two really great baristas and keep replacing them with batches of people who don't really know what they're doing. You can't charge $5 for a cappuchino with no foam. And they've upped their prices and added two different surcharges so a coffee listed at $4.50 comes out to $5.55.
