Fog Town

120 Phelan Ct, Santa Cruz, CA

★★★★★4.8(15 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

This Santa Cruz spot is less coffee shop, more creative playground where the owner wears their personality as boldly as their apron, crafting witty banter alongside impeccable cappuccinos and wildly inventive dishes like their famous Scrambled-Eggo sandwich. The vibe is refreshingly unpretentious—cash only, no tips, and a communal ethos that invites you to roll up your sleeves (literally, for the dishes) and become part of something genuinely local and eccentric. Expect specialty drinks and slow moments in a space that feels more like a friend's kitchen than a commercial establishment, where the real specialty is the irreverent spirit that keeps people talking about it long after they leave.

No tips accepted. Food highly customized to the point of roll your own. Super casual to the point of more skin and chest hair than is comfortable. Dishes and napkins are unique to the point of random. Lots to like. Hours are tough to work into but worth the effort if u can find a parking space and have cash to burn (no credit cards but venmo ok). Don’t park in neighbors’ driveways if you value your safety.

I’ve never been here and probably never will, but I enjoyed reading all of the witty reviews and the response from the chef/barista/MC/owner. Pretty sure this is just somebody’s party house but would still love to go if I got the chance. How about if I just show up and knock on the door?

Vibes were great, food was delicious, but I did feel inwardly pressured to do my own dishes. They don’t require it, but it’s hard not to feel guilty about it since they are clearly working so hard to give you everything you need at such a fair price point. Also the chef’s occasionally prepare their own food and will eat alongside you, which is such a unique experience! Plus the dance parties are fun. Overall I had a great experience.

Scrambled-Eggo sandwich was great! Everyone said it would be gross but it was ginger-lickin good (left in relevant auto-correct)
