BreadWorks at Broad Ripple
1050 East 54th St, Indianapolis, IN
Crema's Take
“This Broad Ripple spot excels at crafting seasonal drinks that feel genuinely exciting rather than gimmicky, paired with an espresso program that regulars genuinely rave about. The airy, open space invites you to linger with your coffee and their genuinely stellar baked goods, though the experience can be a bit uneven depending on who's behind the counter. It's the kind of place where you'll discover your new favorite drink one visit and want to become a regular the next.”

I've had nothing but amazing experiences here since I started coming here back in the early Summer. The seasonal drinks are always fun and exciting and the staff is super friendly and helpful! I have some random food allergies and they are always happy to walk through ingredient labels with me to make sure things are safe. They're also willing to adjust the sweetness of your latte, my mom likes her drinks on the bitter side and they've always been able to accommodate. The portions on the food are very generous, with the Broadripple Breakfast Sandwich being notable for serving as a solid breakfast that encourages a light lunch afterwards! I plan to frequent this lovely little cafe many, many more times and suggest you do too!
This was our first visit to BreadWorks, and we do not plan to return. I recently signed up for TooGoodToGo, and my first purchase through the app was for a Surprise Bag of 'Bread & Pastries'. I understand that this is for leftovers from the previous day, but based on their Instagram feed, thought there may be some bread, bagels, or pastries. I was wrong. It was a large box of a variety of donuts. The donuts were similar in quality to what you would find at Kroger. This was a disappointment, but the service really cemented our choice not to return. We were not greeted when we entered, which is always a letdown. Both of us have had service jobs, and were taught to greet customers when they entered the library, or stores we worked in. The staff behind the counter did not smile or say hi. We were eventually greeted by a woman about our age (in our 50s), and she walked us through how to use the app and redeem a free latte. I also purchased a drip coffee. The latte (Caramel Nutcracker) was ridiculously sugary. The drip coffee was bitter. The shop itself is gorgeous. We loved the reuse of the building, and thought it was really well done. There is plenty of seating, and it is a wonderfully executed design. We were excited to visit, so it's particularly dismaying to have had such a negative experience.
For this sandwich being $12 this is wild. One ring of onion cut in half with a very small piece of chicken…. maybe skip on ordering this. You will get a better sandwich for a better price elsewhere. Their iced Nutella latte is pretty good though.
Staff is so friendly and food is consistently great! Reasonable price for quality, amazing baked goods, and you can’t go wrong with their coffee. Also their espresso is to die for ❤️
Really cute shop, the openness and airy design was pleasing. The service was terrible the older lady looked absolutely miserable throughout our whole interaction. They weren’t busy at all so I’m not sure what the issue was. The yeast donut was too dense, the sugar cookie was good and the sweet tea was good. I’m not sure that I would return.
