Social Misfits
43 Fulton St W, Grand Rapids, MI
Crema's Take
“This whimsical downtown spot celebrates creative eccentricity with playful dishes like their signature Yasuke waffle featuring crispy ramen noodle threads and soy sauce syrup, drawing crowds who crave something genuinely different from the usual breakfast scene. The bustling, fun atmosphere feels purposefully unpretentious and welcoming to families and solo coffee seekers alike, though recent visits suggest quality has been a bit inconsistent. It's the kind of place where you go as much for the "we're different" energy and quirky charm as you do for solid coffee and inventive food.”

Update: We went back after 8 months and the service was a little lacking. Food wasn't as good too. The egg on top of my waffle was cold and not runny. Very different from the last time I had it. Complacency? I dont know. I like my Banana foster latte though. My husband and I loved the place and their food. The syrup was tasty too. Parking was hard and this place was hard to find downtown but we're glad we found it. A must try!
Fun, whimsical atmosphere! Walkable from everywhere downtown and the vibes are really great here. We tried the Yasuke, a waffle with threads of ramen noodle throughout, had a great soy sauce syrup and a siracha mayo on top, loved it except the egg, the soft boiled egg was so cold. Totally fine to make ahead of time but it was fridge cold on top of the waffle. Also had the Kraft Punk (think an elevated Kraft grilled cheese). Espresso martini was solid, very tasty. Will be back to try other waffles!
Update: I was back in town and decided to have dinner here. Great choice. So many good dishes to choose from. Highly recommend. Great eclectic place attached to our hotel. I loved the “social misfit” vibe. We were just here for drinks, but the food looked amazing. Next time we’re in town we’ll have dinner here too. Definitely recommend.
This place is awesome! 👍🏻 🤩 We came in for a breakfast on a raining morning, the place was quite full so we found a place at the bar (2 adults and 2 kids). Everything was excellent: for the friendly staff (with the surprising magic show!) to the generous portions (the pics don't do the justice) to the unique drinks (I loved the Banana latte!) In shorts, this place is a real treat - totally worth the walk in the rain ☔ **Note that the entrance is on the adjacent side of the building to where google maps takes you.
C'mon. Fun food and uniqueness is something I really like. I can get ordinary in lots of places. So I can say I appreciated all the quirky-ness and the "We are different" thing going on here. Even the menu saying: "Waffles" and then "Not Waffles" made me smile. I did a Not and I loved it. Here's some pictures of some of our choices. My "Not Waffle" is the 1st picture and it was called Frida Frittata @$12. Lovely. I ate every bit of it and the person sitting next to me tried it and said they wished they had gotten it also. #2 and #3 food pictures weren't as well received and only half eaten. Life is trial and error sometimes. I recommend Frida. You won't be sorry no matter how fussy you are.
