Crema's Take

This beloved Ames institution is a nostalgic bakery destination where made-to-order cakes offer unbeatable value and quality, and the famous Birdseye donuts and creamy Oh Boys keep locals coming back for years. With enthusiastic staff, generous pastry cases, and a cozy (if delightfully dated) interior, it's the kind of spot where you can grab a quick coffee and pastry or commission a celebration cake without breaking the bank. The genuine warmth from behind the counter makes this family-friendly bakery feel like a neighborhood gathering place rather than just another quick grab.

Amazing tasty bakery! The Birdseye donut is my favorite! Oh Boys have very creamy custard and taste fabulous! I have been going here for years.

I came here to grab a quick lunch while traveling through Ames. I was looking for something quick and inexpensive, and it met the requirement. There were lots of really fun pastries that I wanted to try, but I settled on a blueberry bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was good; the cream cheese was the best I have ever had. They had several varieties to choose from, but the blueberry cream cheese had real blueberries mixed in, and it was fantastic. I wouldn't normally consider a bagel with cream cheese to be lunch, but the blueberries in it made it feel like a wonderful treat. Definitely a shop worth visiting!

Ordered a 2 tier red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting to celebrate an anniversary. Nowhere in Ames can you get a cake so cheap with such great quality. It was delicious and adorable.

We stopped in for breakfast and got a breakfast croissant and a doughnut. The food was good and location is cute. The staff is very nice and helpful. It did seem a little dirty/untidy.

Nice bakery. The staff is very enthusiastic! The interior is kind of outdated but there's plenty of seating. Unfortunately, we came at the end of the day so options were limited. The doughnut I chose was very light and airy. Great texture, but way too sweet for me. I would like to come back one early morning to see if there are more items that would suit my palate. I'm not really into shortbread or almond so I skipped the cookies and dutch letters.
