Crema's Take

Surfin Ass Coffee brings a distinctly laid-back island vibe to Kona with baristas who actually listen and make thoughtful suggestions—one reviewer raved about a vanilla-hazelnut combo they never would have ordered otherwise. The shop seems to thrive on personality and humor (the menu alone tells you it's not taking itself too seriously), though quality and consistency appear inconsistent across visits, so you might want to chat with whoever's behind the counter about what's working that day.

This is a very laid back coffee shop. The cashier/barista made helpful suggestions. I was going to get a basic hazelnut iced coffee. She suggested throwing some vanilla in there. No regrets! The owner was also in at the time. They are good people. Probably don’t go there if you are impatient or a jerk.

Do not buy. Worse than other locations and not affiliated with them. The Blue Balls from this location are disgusting. They taste very similar to Play-Doh. There are no layers of milk and white chocolate and it is just soft blue dough down to the nut center. When asking the worker about it, he immediately became agitated and he refused to try one to see if it was a bad batch. Says he doesn't like them either. Do not put these balls in your mouth.

the old man working there assaulted me earlier this year during a march down Alii. our group paused near the shop to let tourists read our signs and he came over to scream at us. he took that moment to grab me and try to shake me. extremely concerning behavior as he was caught on camera.

The coffee is average and the service is slow. The pricing is good but just order your coffee plain as Too much sweetener is used.

This is a fun and funny place we happened to pass by as we were circling the big island. I fun find with delicious coffee and a fun treat. We have kept an unopened bag of Chocolates Donkey Balls since our honeymoon 10 years ago. It's a fun little shop and work a quick stop and fun souvenir if you can swing it.
