Crema's Take

Riverside Cafe is a historic Wichita institution that's been serving comfort food since 1946, though recent changes have left some regulars conflicted about its future. When the staff is at their best—particularly beloved regulars like Megan—the place delivers genuine warmth and hospitality alongside generous portions and reasonable prices, but inconsistent maintenance and service issues have frustrated longtime customers who remember its better days. If you catch it on a good day with the right crew, you'll find old-school diner charm and hearty food worth the visit, though it feels like the cafe is at a crossroads after its recent ownership transition.

This used to be my favorite neighborhood cafe.. I've really tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but ever since the fire and new ownership the place doesn't have the appeal it once did. The staff is still very friendly and welcoming but thats about the best thing I can give this place. Food has substantially gone down hill. No flavor and it's as greasy as it can get. Their breakfast burrito used to be a hit! Now it seems to just be a watery thrown together mess. I really wanted to have that feeling of what it once was, hearing that its been a struggle to keep the doors open. But at 12 o'clock on beautiful Saturday it was about as empty as it could get. Hard to see a place like this fall.

I really tried to love this place. The musty/funky smell when we walked in, the hanging/peeling ceiling, uneven floor, wobbling tables (we tried 3) just made it a no-go for returning. My wife said her pancake was awesome. The waitress kept our mugs full. The usual fare of eggs toast hashbrowns was average.

I wish they would bring Megan back on the weekends. She always takes amazing care of us and is so hospitable. She makes it feel like you are visiting family or a friend when you come in. Since she hasn't been at this location we have had a new waitress take care of us and its just not the same. Very disappointing when you get use to having someone familiar take care of you regularly and then they get transferred to a different location that doesn't work for you because of where you reside.

I like breakfast for lunch or supper. I stopped in for a bite. This place has a lot of character & charm. I was overwhelmed by the amount of food they served and the pancake was huge. The food was excellent and the staff is wonderful. Happy New Year's to you all!

Cozy old school diner that's been in the same spot since 1946 the food is exactly as you would expect it for a classic diner, the staff was very friendly, and the prices were exceptionally reasonable. I would recommend it if you are looking for that classic American comfort meal.
