Alchemist Coffee Project
3311 S La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Crema's Take
“This alchemist spot on La Cienega has cultivated a devoted following for its carefully executed matcha drinks and thoughtfully prepared coffee, with a particularly praised matcha einspanner that manages to be smooth and balanced without veering too grassy or overwrought. The La Cienega location pairs its specialty beverage program with surprisingly delicious food options and a genuinely work-friendly environment filled with power outlets and natural light, making it feel less like a caffeine pit stop and more like a place you'd actually want to settle in for hours.”

$7 for a latte this small—and it wasn’t even filled to the top. What kind of café charges that? I basically paid $14 for two tiny bottles of latte I could finish in three seconds. Not to mention I waited 10 minutes for just this? Ridiculous. Definitely avoid this place.
I was in the area and read good reviews. I ordered the matcha einspanner, Spanish latte, and a focaccia prosciutto plate since they didn’t have the panini or any croissants left. It took longer than the drinks, but it was good! The matcha was alright, didn't stand out among others I’ve tried, but the Spanish latte was good. The employee who took my order could have been more welcoming compared to the other employees, otherwise, it was a cute, busy coffee shop.
Everyone sings Alchemist’s praises but I would describe it as an inoffensive matcha that wasn’t too einspannery. The matcha powder was neither grassy nor bitter so it was an overall pleasant drink but unmemorable compared to competitors. Seating at this Cumulus location is hit or miss but there are outlets and it’s close to the metro station (La Cienega / Jefferson).
One of my favorite coffee shops to go to now is this Alchemist spot by the Cumulus complex on La Cienega. The coffee and matcha selection is fancy and on point, and surprisingly food is delicious, from the baked selections (the bread pudding!) and truffle powder dusted open faced sandwiches. I was here twice this week. Perfect for when I grocery shop at nearby Whole Foods.
Could easily say it's my favorite Alchemist among the 3 now; beyond the gorgeous design, it's also a very practical space to work with plenty of seats occupied with power outlets! I could see lots of students would hangout here especially it resided in the apartment where I knew tons of students stayed. For non-residents, great news they did 2-hour parking validation. The barista was super kind. I came pretty late and stayed until almost closing time for something urgent to finish, and she politely reminded me but let me take my time (really appreciate you!). I went for their hot Caramel Latte with almond milk, which was delightful and I could swiftly finish in a blink. Balanced bitter and sweet notes with rich body!
