We came up to visit our son in Boone. When we moved our son into his apartment we stayed at a hotel on King St. that had Stick Boy pastries on their menu—it was love at first bite! Later I googled & found their bread company (taking home some bread & treats). On this overnight trip—I was visiting the plaza to seek out some vintage finds at the thrift shop & stumbled upon this restaurant. Yesterday afternoon I brought the family for lunch and it did not disappoint. I highly suggest looking at their online menu because the line is long because of their popularity. You’ve got to know what you want to order when you get up to the register. I’m happy they had outdoor seating because the indoor accommodations become filled-up fast. The Kluckin Kop was recommended to me & I loved the blend of the provolone, honey mustard, and mayonnaise. I took pics of the boys orders, too. My son enjoyed the cold Chick Pea sandwich. My husband went with breakfast. We also each ordered a baked good. I can’t pass up a sweet. I also love the Hatchet coffee! It’s delicious! I’m glad I tried it. It’s my go-to when I’m visiting Boone. I highly recommend taking a bag or two home. Check out my pics of other merch available. I also got to try the hibiscus lemonade and it was perfect to cool me down on this hot day. I definitely want to come back & try more off the menu. Stick Boy leaves me wanting more. I’m hooked and you will be, too! Happy Eating 🍴 Josephine Local Guide
When I first sat down to write this, my gut said to give it three stars. Why? Well, I wasn’t quite sure to be honest. As I parsed through my thoughts, I decided that in fact it was a four star place, but you need to have the right expectations. We stopped in for lunch, and Stick Boy Kitchen serves hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads, quiche, and of course a large selection of Stick Boy Bakery pastries. They also serve a wide range of smoothies and coffee drinks. I would describe the ambience and offerings as more of a cafe than a restaurant, and that’s where I think my own expectations were misaligned. All that said, we had a good meal with good service! Pros: 1.) Stick Boy baked goods. If you’ve not visited the bakery just down the road before, then you’ll need to sample some of the pastries here. Get whatever looks good to you—it’s all good! Pair it with some Hatchet coffee! 2.) Mains. The sandwiches we had were all quite good. Interesting takes on standard offerings, such as the Kluckin Kop, a twist on the usual grilled chicken sandwich. Their quiche was also excellent. 3.) Service. The service was quite prompt, and staff addressed any questions we had very quickly and comprehensively. Cons: 1.) Sides. I feel like this is a big miss at an otherwise great restaurant. The sides available with our sandwiches were bagged chips, cut fruit, hummus and carrots, or fries. All were okay, but to have such great mains with relatively uninspired sides was a bit of a let down. Overall, a nice spot for a leisurely lunch and coffee.
The food at Stick Boy Bread Company is fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Their breads are perfectly baked, pastries are delightful, and everything tastes homemade. A must-visit for bakery lovers!
My daughter and I stopped into Stick Boy Kitchen on a snowy December morning for a bite to eat, and it did not disappoint! We tried a sticky bun and a chocolate croissant, as well as fried egg sandwiches with ham, bacon, and cheese on bagels. Everything was absolutely delicious. The cheddar everything bagel made my ham, gouda, and fried egg sandwich exceptional—just the right combination of flavors. The sticky bun was perfectly sticky and sweet, and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her chocolate croissant. While the food was fantastic, the service was a bit confusing when we first arrived. Being from out of town, we weren’t familiar with the setup. We initially sat down but quickly realized we needed to grab menus ourselves from a sandwich board. After that, things improved—especially thanks to a kind young gentleman who took our order and ensured everything went smoothly. The cozy holiday atmosphere was a nice touch, with college students decorating the space with coffee filter stars, adding a festive and quirky charm. Despite a slightly rocky start, everyone was friendly and helpful, and the quality of the food made it a wonderful experience overall. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! The flavors, cozy vibe, and unique charm of Stick Boy Kitchen make it worth a visit. Just make sure you grab a menu when you walk in!
