Crema's Take

Tucked away in Kenmore, Cafe 59 is a charming neighborhood spot where locals linger for hours with laptops and friends alike, backed by consistently stellar service and a genuinely welcoming vibe. Their rotating lunch specials and house-made pastries shine brightest, though opinions on value are mixed—some swear by the quality while others feel prices have drifted from what they once were. If you're seeking an unpretentious place that opens late and treats families like regulars, this cozy cafe delivers warmth in spades.

This is a very charming place, and I liked the variety of dishes offered, especially the specials on their lunch menu; however, the food and service was disappointing. It was not busy at all when we dined there on a Saturday afternoon, so we found it off putting that our server didn't offer to check with the kitchen when not able to answer a specific food-sensitive question as to how a particular dish was prepared. My date ordered the tuna melt instead, and I had a chicken sandwich. After our food came, our server came by once to refill waters, and passed by two more times without a word. The next time, she did stop to ask how we were doing (to which we said we were fine); and finally, the fifth time, after noticing that my girlfriend hadn't touched her sandwich, she asked if there was anything wrong with the food. When it was pointed out to her that the bread was toasted, the cheese melted, but that the tuna was literally ice cold - and that the sandwich probably should be called tuna salad on toast, rather than a tuna melt - she responded, "Oh, yeah, that's how it is". She did offer to take the sandwich off our bill, which we both appreciated, but we didn't want to try anything else instead, as the chicken on my bland sandwich (that I could only stomach half of) was clearly grilled beforehand and microwaved to order. Unfortunately, even the coffee under-delivered; it was very watered down, and it didn't taste very good at all. I did enjoy the cider that I had on draft, however! Yum. To be fair, our server was very pleasant, but the service and food was sadly lacking. We left hungry and disappointed, and while we may pop in again for drinks, we will not eat there again. Win some, lose some. Go Sabres.

This is another restaurant that we patronized for years and had to stop going to because the prices didn't match the quality or quantity of food. I miss Cafe 59...and used to overlook the fact that potato wedges aren't included with the sandwiches, the falafel burger is always mushy in the middle, they don't include enough dressing with their salads...and things are sloppily prepared. I overlooked all of that because they use whole foods and the taste was decent. Fast forward to 2025, I've included a photo of a turkey burgundy sandwich with a small bag of Lay's (weird choice, but ok) and a pickle spear, which costs $17.25 before you even add tax or tip. What?? I totally get that costs are rising for everyone including restaurants, but this isn't in line with what you can get at other places, even on the same street. If you can't sell your original menu at reasonable prices anymore, then you need to adjust it. We won't be back.

I was introduced to Cafe 59 a few years ago by a family member and I have to say that this is one of the best restaurants in Buffalo. I have never been disappointed with the service, food, or drinks. I usually try something different every time I go there and there is plenty on their menu to choose from. The restaurant is very welcoming of everyone and they offer food to fit many eating lifestyles. If you are ever on Allen Street be sure to check this place out.

We ordered takeout from here a few weeks ago. Everything was incredible! I loved the chicken pot pie soup, it was so delicious. We also got a salad and a pasta dish. Salad had fresh vegetables with a delicious ranch dressing. Pasta looked much better once the sauce was mixed in!

The service from the waiter was outstanding—everyone was very friendly and attentive. The appetizers were great, served hot and fresh. The main courses looked really good with nice presentation, but unfortunately, when they arrived, they were lukewarm. The potatoes seemed like they had been fried a while ago and were possibly kept on a warmer until the plates were served. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, but the food didn't meet my expectations. We ordered four dishes, and none of them were served at the right temperature or flavor, which was a bit disappointing.
