My Friend Joe
1810 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA
Crema's Take
“My Friend Joe captures that perfect local coffee shop vibe where you can linger over a craft latte and pastry or dash in for a quick caffeine fix before your day picks up. The menu spans traditional espresso drinks alongside creative specialty options, with a solid breakfast and lunch program that keeps regulars coming back between laundry runs and appointments. It's the kind of neighborhood spot that feels genuinely welcoming, even if the kitchen gets slammed during peak hours—unpretentious and real, exactly as a good friend's place should be.”

Horrible experience. I work in the restaurant industry so I am VERY forgiving with most things. The wait for 2 sandwiches and a burrito was over 45 minutes and there was only one person ahead of us. They burned something while it was being made and the entire room smelled horrible. When we finally got our food we raced out of there to eat somewhere else. When we got to our destination we found out that it was our food that was burnt. Not only did it look burnt but it tasted burnt with burnt pieces stuck to the sandwich from whatever appliance they used to cook it. There was rotten avocado put on the burrito and the other sandwich was so covered in burnt smoke that that's all we could taste. Everything was practically inedible. I left there honestly concerned about food poisoning. The whole place looks like it hasn't been cleaned and the one guy working there kept touching his face with his gloves and going to the back to cough. I tried calling over 10 times to try and communicate this but no one answers the phone and there is no place to leave a voicemail. I get this is a college spot but I used to live in the neighborhood and would visit all of the time. Seriously needs a health inspection!!!
Earlier today, a homeless lady asked me to buy her coffee from this place because it was super cold and she wanted something warm to drink. As I went in there and told them what I wanted to order, they asked if it was for the lady and I said yes. They then refused to serve me because they said she was dirty and she leaves trash everywhere (I did not see a single piece of trash anywhere in the area) I then asked if I could just get the coffee for myself and they refused me again. This is unacceptable and very disrespectful. I wanted to try this place for a while and now I will never even think to go there for anything knowing they treat people so poorly. It is the season of giving and this is how we are treating the unfortunate? Very disappointing if you ask me. I hope people see this review and are aware of how they treat homeless people who aren’t bothering anyone and just want to be able to eat.
It was a little early for lunch, and still cold from the night, Pinhead Pete and I were heading toward a breakfast joint on 4th when the Pin asks me who Joe is...Joe who I said, and he says My Friend Joe Coffee...who's this Joe guy? I looked him right in the eyes and said...See, ..That's exactly why everyone calls you Pinhead! Well, we whipped it on in there ..it was right between breakfast and lunch, so I got the egg salad sandwich, and it was Amazing! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
So many different drinks and great breakfast/lunch. The staff is fast and friendly and it’s just a cool local coffee shop. My boyfriend and I come here when we have to do laundry down the street and it just hits the spot every time.
First time in and enjoying it. Needed to kill some time before an appointment down the road. If you are looking for craft lattes, high-end baked goods, or table service this isn’t your spot. BUT it is perfect for a simple cup of black coffee, croissant or bagel. Not overly expensive like other places in the area, and still delicious. Croissant was surprisingly light, fluffy and crisp. Service was fast and friendly. I’d come back.
