LaRue At The Commons
147 Welborn St, Greenville, SC
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in The Commons, this gem pairs artisanal chocolates with an impressive selection of wines and spirits, offering curated tasting experiences that feel more like a special occasion than a casual coffee run. The team—particularly Betsy and Stella—creates a genuinely warm atmosphere where you're treated like a friend rather than a customer, and their handcrafted drinks are as thoughtfully made as the beautiful chocolates they showcase. It's the kind of place that transforms an ordinary afternoon into something memorable, whether you're settling in with a specialty drink or treating yourself to a chocolate and bourbon pairing.”

My husband took me here as a surprise date for Valentine’s Day. It was amazing! We did the chocolate pairing, I did wine and he did bourbon. They curated a pairing of wines and chocolates and it was absolutely delicious. The chocolates were perfect - from the texture to the flavors, I cannot say enough how good these chocolates were. The service was also wonderful. This is the perfect date night or girls night out spot, I can’t wait to come back.
Delicious chocolate (almost too beautiful to eat), excellent wine selection, and cozy space. Betsy is incredibly kind and Stella is absolutely wonderful (and makes amazing drinks)! Cannot recommend LaRue enough!!!!
It was the definition of fine. The chocolates looked cute but the flavors lacked definition. Every chocolate tasted like the last with a mediocre dark chocolate taste that unfortunately stuck in your mouth. I shared a box of 6 and got only half of each but that was more than enough. After about 1/2 of four I started to get tired of the monotonous taste. After eating I started to feel bleh like I had just eaten a box of 30 Russel stovers. Not an amazing experience and I definitely wouldn’t recommend. Save your coin and go somewhere else.
I so wanted to give this amazing place 5 stars, but just couldn’t… will share details. I will come back so hopefully next visit will be perfect. The location is a little off the beaten path but isn’t far from some great restaurants on Pendleton. The ambience was immediately welcoming and the chocolate case and wine selections wowed me as we walked in. The chocolates looked like plates of little jewels or pieces of artwork. They were so appealing it was difficult to not just keep ordering to try them all. I did the chocolate with wine flight, and was impressed with how well they paired with each (one each sparkling, rose, and red). The chocolates included fillings from Guava to Marcona almond (chopped) and one was lavender flavored. My husband ordered a slice of key lime pie that looked beautiful, but was still partially frozen. Perhaps that is why it was dry and the key lime flavor didn’t really shine. During our entire visit the service was friendly, helpful, and always engaged with customers. Besides the miss on the pie, I felt that the size of each chocolate was very small, though the price was also less than you might find at other chocolatiers. We did take home 6 chocolates in a lovely package for $14. Very reasonable I think and overall a real gem here in Greenville!
Stopped in for dessert while in the area. They have many awards for their chocolate, and I can see why! Very nice assortment and flavors to try. They have a variety/sample tray you can pick. I definitely recommend that for starters. Fantastic service and conversation really made us feel welcome. We will definitely be back!
