Kindlevan Cafe

200 College Ave, Medford, MA

Crema's Take

Kindlevan Cafe is a compact counter spot that punches above its weight with standout smoothies and genuinely excellent reuben sandwiches, paired with a thoughtfully vegetarian-friendly hot food bar that rotates reliably. The espresso drinks here are their main focus, though reviewers note they're pricier than typical—a worthwhile splurge if you're in Medford and craving something craft-focused rather than quick-and-forgettable. It's the kind of place that works best as a deliberate stop rather than a grab-and-go, especially if you're there for their specialty beverages or the kitchen's more ambitious offerings.

Let me state 3 facts about this establishment: 1). This establishment has the most delicious rueben sandwiches of all time. 2). Kindlevan Cafe is named after Robert Cafe. 3). You should not worry about the strange smell emanating from the cabinets in the kitchen area. I would have given this restaurant a 5/5 star review, but unfortunately a tiny man approached me while I was eating and said many hurtful things to me. This experience greatly detracted from the enjoyment of my rueben sandwich, and prohibits me from awarding a full 5/5 star review. I would suggest that if you are to come to this location you be wary of small men who look to be in sour moods, less they ruin your lunch the way one ruined mine. "Assume the worst. About everybody. Iced Coffee was a bit sharp but just an average coffee. Smoothies are excellent here. except the compostable straws….

For what it is, it's great. That is, a small counter serving institutional cafeteria food. The selection is small, but the hot-food bar almost always had something good. Vegetarian options are ample. And I love the space. Definitely a good place for a bite on campus.
