Crema's Take
“Blackbird Cafe in Lakewood has built a devoted following as a serious brunch destination where the breakfast burritos and chilaquiles rival the quality of dedicated Mexican restaurants, all served in a relaxed outdoor setting perfect for lingering with friends or colleagues. The cafe strikes that rare balance of excellent, generously portioned food at fair prices with genuinely warm service—regulars rave about staff members like Annette who treat guests like family rather than transactions. Whether you're fueling up on their breakfast bowl before a long day or settling in for an unhurried morning, this is the kind of neighborhood spot that justifies a drive.”

Best brunch spot in LB. Food is excellent and a great value. I was stuffed for most of the day afterwards! Everything on the menu sounds delicious, but I settled on the breakfast bowl. Really tasty and healthy with the addition of the soyrizo. There are quite a few vegetarian options, which is nice. The space is lively and decorated really cute. I didn't catch our server's name but she was excellent. Didn't have to ask for water refills or anything for that matter. Thid spot is owned by locals so you can feel good about supporting the Long Beach economy by eating here. No reservations, so be prepared to wait a bit on the weekends. It's a popular spot for good reason.
I brought a client here for breakfast, and unfortunately the service got off to a rough start. Our waitress literally forgot where she seated us and didn’t take our order for over 30 minutes. I eventually had to politely remind her that we were still waiting (and getting pretty hungry). Once she took our order, things moved along. The food itself was decent, and the portions were fair for the price. I finished my entire meal. My colleague, who’s on a diet, left most of his food, though that’s the excuse he gave me.
Great place for breakfast! We stopped here during the week and it isn't too busy. Service is prompt and the staff is friendly. Great flavors from all the dishes we ordered. The breakfast burritos are big and flavorful. The housemade salsa has great flavor and well balanced amount of heat. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was fantastic; creamy and smooth. The chocolate brownie pancakes are dessert for breakfast! Served with maple syrup, it's a great flavor balance to the other dishes. The tater tots were a bit too well done, but a good side nonetheless. We will definitely be coming back here soon!
Ms. Annette is awesome! She is truly very customer focused and goes above and beyond to make you feel like family. The food was delicious and just the right portion size and the ambience of the resturant is positive, calming and eclectic! Will return on my next visit to the LBC
Our food was delicious and our service was the best! I had the chilaquiles burrito with black beans and my bf had the El Luchador it was like an open faced torta with birria meat and a poached egg. My burrito had birria meat inside and it had sour cream and avocado on the top! My beans were a little overwhelming to say the least I like my black beans normal and these were to smoky for my liking but over all everything looked fabulous and tasted bomb 😊
