Crema's Take
“Tadaima brings authentic Japanese café culture to Union Street with a beautifully minimal, intentional space that feels like a love letter to the tradition itself. Beyond their genuinely excellent matcha drinks—particularly the signature creamy and umami-forward renditions—they offer a carefully curated menu of Japanese-inspired light bites like musubi and onigiri that deserve the hype, all served with quick, welcoming hospitality that matches the cozy, unhurried vibe of the room. Whether you're grabbing a quick specialty drink or settling in for a slow sit with friends, this is the kind of place that reminds you why intention in coffee culture actually matters.”

Tadaima on Union Street is exactly the kind of place San Francisco needs more of. Minimal, intentional, and quietly excellent — it feels like someone who actually loves Japanese café culture opened a spot for people who feel the same way. Start with the matcha latte and don’t overthink it. The strawberry cream version is stunning — lush, smooth, and beautifully balanced between sweet and earthy. The black sesame latte is just as good in a more grounded, nutty direction. Every drink is crafted with care and comes out looking almost too good to drink. Almost.[theinfatuation] The food is just as dialed in. The tonkatsu with pineapple sando is a genuine standout — crispy, rich, and bright all at once, held together by the softest milk bread imaginable. The sweet sandos are playful and delicious, especially the red bean, mochi, and matcha cream combo. Onigiri options are fresh, well-seasoned, and the kind of thing you’ll think about later. Everything across the menu is clean, thoughtful, and hits. The space itself adds to it — calm, warm, unhurried. The staff is attentive without being hovery. It feels like a genuine neighborhood gem that happens to also be extremely Instagrammable. If you’re on Union Street and walk past without stopping in, you’ve made a mistake. Come hungry, order freely, and bring a friend — you’ll want someone to share the drinks comparison with.
We ordered a strawberry sando, unagi avo musubi (not pictured bc we ate it right away), snow crab and yuzu salmon onigiris (these were smaller than we expected but still very yummy), and two drinks (i got iced matcha latte w salted cheese cream and my bf got a regular hot matcha latte). We loved everything! Matchas were a perfect sweetness (we got regular sweetness) and still had the earthy taste of matcha (which i look for when I get matcha). My favorite food had to be the snow crab onigiri 😋
Really tasty and lovely ambience. I have always wanted to try the matcha here, but it’s normally quite busy and don’t have time to wait. There was no wait when I went on a Thursday around noon. I ordered the mushroom and diakon onigiri with a pistachio matcha. Both were fresh and delicious. The matcha has a stronger flavor, which may come from them using a healthy amount but this suits my taste personally. Totally recommend trying! Staff seemed really pleasant also!
Entering Tadaima it's a nice cozy aesthetic. The service as quick, efficient and very welcoming. My friend and I got the dirty matcha we didn't change the sweetness so it was very strong but yet very delicious we also got the chicken filet karage sando. Very delicious sweet and savory. Highly recommend coming here with friends or by yourself. It's very peaceful
Really great matcha here! Definitely worth the hype. I got the matcha latte with salted cream cheese, and it had the perfect amount of creaminess and sweetness to it, with a bit of saltiness from the foam! The onigiri was quite good as well, though a bit expensive for what it is. Service was quick and it wasn’t crowded at all on a weekday afternoon.
