Belmar Bakery
3325 Bell St, Amarillo, TX
Crema's Take
“This beloved Amarillo institution has built three decades of loyalty on custom cakes and pies, though recent reviews suggest the bakery is struggling to maintain the quality and attentiveness that made it a family tradition for so many customers. The charm of Belmar Bakery lies in its traditional pastries and made-to-order baked goods, paired with straightforward coffee drinks in a family-friendly setting perfect for a quick grab-and-go visit. If you're drawn to local bakeries with deep roots and homemade appeal, this spot is worth a visit—just be aware that longtime fans have noticed a recent dip in both service and execution that might affect your experience.”

I have been a long time customer and have always ordered cakes and pies from Belmar. What happened to this place? I placed an order for my Thanksgiving pies over a week ago, went to pick them up the day before Thanksgiving at 4pm, I didn’t leave until around 7:30pm! There was a long line of ANGRY customers who were there long before I got there. I understand it’s a busy time but I never had this issue before. Every time a customer would ask how much longer until their orders were ready, they would say 5 mins, and each time, those 5 mins turned into hours. There were 5 employees, which included a manager, all except for one young girl with glasses were extremely rude to customers, including elderly customers!!! The girls were all standing around doing absolutely nothing while the place was a mess. A lot of customers didn’t even receive their pies and walked out. After 3 1/2 hours of waiting, I finally got my 2 pies. They looked HORRIBLE. I got a refund for one pie but in reality, I should have gotten a refund for both! I ordered 1 lemon meringue and 1 chocolate meringue pie, the pictures will speak for itself. I am sad to see how bad this place has gotten, not only the atmosphere, but the customer service and the quality/taste of what I ordered.
If there was an option for a zero star review, I’d leave it. This bakery has always been so reputable. I ordered a cake two days in advance for a birthday party and planned to pick up the cake right before the party. The cake hadn’t even been started when I arrived to pick it up. I was asked to pay in advance, too. They promised they would deliver the cake to the party. The cake never showed. It took me at least half a day to get a hold of them the following day to get a refund. I was extremely disappointed in their service. I was once a devout customer. Today they have lost my business for good.
We have been ordering pies for 15 years. So disappointed in today’s service. Customer service today was at a 0 star rating for sure. The women working the counter were rude and didn’t acknowledge my mother when she requested her order that was a pre-order. Pick up time was at 12 and pies weren’t ready until 6 this afternoon. My parents waited for 3 hours for the order to be ready, they couldn’t just go home and go back later because we live an 1 1/2 away. We know it’s a busy time so we always give extra time to complete the order but the order was not available for 6 hours after pick up time. This is ridiculous and unacceptable. I know it’s a busy time of year but you can tell they definitely over extended themselves. Will most likely be the last visit for us. Hopefully you learn from today and do better.
I want to share my experience respectfully, but honestly. We ordered a cake for my sweet aunt’s birthday party two full days in advance, and required us to pay over the phone. We arrived at the exact time we were told to pick it up, only to find out the cake wasn’t ready. The staff assured us they would start it immediately and have it delivered in time for the party. Unfortunately, that never happened. We never received a call, a message, or any update. And most importantly, no cake was ever delivered, despite it already being paid for. It was extremely disappointing, especially for such a special occasion. I’m leaving this review in hopes the bakery can improve communication and reliability going forward, but based on this experience, I can only give a 1-star rating.
My family has ordered cakes for the last 30 years, this year is the last. When I ordered the cake, everything was fine. When I went to pick it up, it wasn’t exactly what I had asked for so I asked for the correction. When cutting into the cake, the consistency was different and doughy. As soon as we bit into the cake you could tell that it was not fully baked. I return the cake and ended up speaking to the manager/owner who argued with me on the ingredients and the fact that she said it was fully cooked and was a vanilla cream cake and that is what it’s supposed to look like. I explained no that it made my family sick and we threw the pieces cut away. She finally gave a refund. Sadly this is the last special occasion will give Belmar business. Edit at 6:49am 08/06/24 I’m so glad the owner responded and tried to flip the conversation. She argued with me for a good 10 minutes on the ingredients and no way they can make you sick, until a gentleman pulled up to pick up his cake. I simply stated we got sick from eating what bites we took from this cake. At no point did I say anything about raw eggs or even eggs at all. She is the one who stated “this cake is not made with eggs, it is a vanilla crème cake. It can not make you sick.” WHO orders a vanilla crème cake instead of regular vanilla?? Obviously some wires were crossed when I requested regular vanilla. If you look at the photos, the cake is definitely not fully done and she pushed her finger into the cake and felt that it was clearly not done.
