Ruby's New York Style Bagels - North Charleston
5060 Dorchester Rd, North Charleston, SC
Crema's Take
“While Ruby's excels as a bagel destination with genuinely impressive New York-style options (the pumpernickel everything bagel is a standout), their coffee program takes a backseat to the pastries and breakfast sandwiches that keep locals and visitors equally satisfied. The in-house baking, friendly staff, and consistent quality across multiple locations make this a reliable early morning stop in North Charleston, though serious coffee enthusiasts might want to pair their visit with a specialty roaster nearby.”

I’ve now tried three different Ruby’s Bagels locations, and it’s nice to see the quality stays pretty consistent. This spot had the same fresh, chewy bagels I’ve come to expect, with a good selection even later in the morning. I went with a toasted bagel and one of their specialty cream cheeses, and it hit the spot — simple, flavorful, and filling without being over the top. What stood out at this location was how smooth everything felt. The line moved quickly, the staff were polite, and my order came out exactly how I asked. The shop itself had a comfortable, casual vibe that made it a good place to sit for a few minutes and actually enjoy breakfast instead of grabbing and rushing out. Keeping it at four stars because pricing is still a bit on the higher side, and while everything tastes good, nothing has quite crossed into “can’t stop thinking about it” territory yet. Still, it’s a dependable go-to when I want a solid bagel and a reliable breakfast option. I’d definitely keep this location in my rotation just like the others.
Ruby's was an excellent choice for breakfast while in Charleston! I ordered a Pumpernickel Everything bagel with regular cream cheese (about $5.75). AMAZING. It's not every day I see one as Pumpernickel so I was highly impressed. AND they respect the "Shmear"! Not skimping at all on the cream cheese. It made me proud. Perfectly baked with a crunchy outside, but chewy w/ some give on the inside. They had a variety of bagels toppings, flavored cream cheeses, specialty bagel sandos (such as Reubens), and even pizza bagels. Turkey bacon for those who don't partake in pork. I respect the variety. The iced coffee (w/ oat milk) I ordered was bold and seemed to have been made w/ quality beans. They also offer soy & almond milk substitutes as well if you're lactose intolerant. They had all the standard espresso drinks and tons of specialty lattes depending on your needs. Definitely a worthy spot to stop for a hefty bagel and/or coffee. You're also able to order half/whole dozen if you're looking for quantity!
Super cute, friendly little location. All of the goods including the bagels are made in house and very yummy, high quality! Delicious! My daughter got a chocolate chip muffin which she loved and spread their strawberry cream cheese on which was sooo good, and I got the West Coast Grilled Chicken sandwich which really hit the spot!
The name says it all, closest NY style bagel I’ve had since being in NYC. Friendly staff and tons of fresh bagel options to chose from
Delicious bagels!! Loved the variety. We had the Rico on a garlic bagel and a ham & cheese on a cheddar bacon habanero bagel…order came out fast, fresh and we left very pleased. Staff was nice and patient for being our firsr time to lool at the menu. Also asked for a Creme Brulee Latte extra hot and it came exactly like that. Was not super sweet but also didn’t need to add sugar. Definitely deserved a review. Great coffee and food!
