Aspen Leaf Yogurt Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
125 S Dubuque St, Iowa City, IA
Crema's Take
“This Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory location in Iowa City blends frozen yogurt, artisanal chocolates, and a surprising depth of toppings—from fresh fruit to boba to homemade brownies—making it a creative escape from standard ice cream shops. The atmosphere welcomes families for leisurely sit-downs with plenty of customization, though recent reviews suggest quality has been inconsistent since the ownership change. When they're firing on all cylinders, the strawberry froyo and caramel apples hit genuine highs, but it's worth checking in with locals before your visit to catch them on a good day.”

Since they changed owners, the customer service and quality of the products really went downhill. I used to always request their chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day and anniversary, but after this Valentine's Day, I will no longer do so, as I was very disappointed. First of all, they were running a buy 3, get 1 free special. My husband ordered 6, which should have meant 2 free. They gave him 5, so per their special, technically shorted him 3. He said he questioned it, but the employee was very rude, and just threw them into a box. When I opened the box, the strawberries were barely covered and a few of them were actually moldy. I told him to take them back, but he didn't want to go through the hassle of parking downtown again to go back. I miss the previous owners, who took the time to get to know their customer and treated them right. The old owner had heart shaped boxes that he'd put the berries in, and would tie a bow on them too; these new owners just throw them in a boring looking box. Guess I just have to make my own from here on out.
Pricing not listed for candy and when asked in different ways stated each is just different per oz. Bought a couple things to try because it's chocolate, but both things tasted old and super stale.
I went here with my wife and three small children on a Friday night in late November. The store was not busy and only one employee was working. They were running a promotion that stated, “free hot chocolate with purchase” which drew us into the store. We purchased a big bowl of froyo, some chocolates and a bottle of water. Before completing the transaction we asked about the free hot chocolate for our kids. We wanted three, one for each child, but the clerk told us that we only got one per transaction. She seemed offended and gave us attitude when we pointed out we could just ask her to ring the froyo, the chocolates and the water separately, thereby qualifying for the three free hot chocolates. We ended up have to purchase two more hot chocolates so each child could have one. The service was not great, the hot chocolate promotion was not great and we will not be going back.
It was great. Took my family out here to have Froyo and they really enjoyed it and there's a VERY wide variety of toppings-cake pop balls, boba, fresh fruit, cheesecake, brownies, to of candy. A lot of unique seasonal froyo flavors too. Will definitely be coming back. I also liked that they had a large selection of chocolates and caramel apples.owner was the sweetest! Prefered over the other froyo ic shop.
Tired of the same old ice cream, try here. The frozen yogurt is amazing. I had strawberry and it was the best strawberry of anything I ever tasted. The caramel apples are super tasty too, and it smells wonderful when you walk in. The staff was super friendly and thanked us for coming.
