Smalls LA Cafe & Market

Crema's Take
“Tucked into a Mid-City strip mall, Smalls LA is a neighborhood gem where the staff actually remember your name and celebrate regulars with a Polaroid mural on the wall. Their espresso drinks—especially the Spanish latte and New Orleans latte—are expertly crafted and smooth, while the mellow, welcoming vibe makes it equally perfect for a focused work session or lingering conversation with friends. This is the kind of place where the owner will happily improvise off-menu options and the whole experience feels genuinely warm without ever feeling precious.”

This is a GEM of a place tucked inside an unassuming mini-mall/strip plaza in Mid-City! The vibe is mellow, relaxing, and very welcoming. The staff are nice and customer-oriented. If you're lucky and the owner is there, he constantly experiments with new dishes and loves to share his creations. It's fun to have unexpected treats. It's been my go-to spot when I need a break from working at home. Highly recommended!
My favorite coffee spot in the neighborhood! Off on the corner of Pico and Crenshaw, the people actually remember your name and even have a Polaroid mural of all the regulars. Truly a spot for and by the community, they go as far as to have paper next to the exit of local updates and services for anyone interested. Last but not least: the food is fire and the drinks are consistently well made! If you’re hungry, get the turkey sandwich and say yes to getting it heated. Thank me later.
There are a lot of cafes in LA but this one is by far my favorite. The owner and staff are so kind and accommodating. I am vegetarian and the owner made a version of their turkey sandwich off-menu that was maybe the best sandwich I’ve had. Definitely recommend the tomato monkey bread too. Fast wifi and a lot of outlets for people who want to study or do work. Indoor and outdoor seating as well as a free parking lot. I think Smalls is unique from other cafes here because of its community feel—it seems like a lot of customers know the owner and staff by name and vice versa. Folks stop and chat and there are resources for community members such as free masks. I definitely wanted to gate keep Smalls, but it’s too good to keep to myself. So glad my friend recommended this spot to me.
Perfect representative of your warm welcoming neighborhood coffee shop with super friendly owner and convenient space to focus being decently busy yet not loud. I got their 'New Orleans Latte' and I would say it impressed me as much as the version from the well-known chain coffee shop in town (IYKYK). Bold flavor, right sweetness and creaminess, for which mine went with almond milk.
Yo, just hit up Small LA Cafe and ordered a Spanish latte with a couple of chocolates on the side. Gotta say, the latte was straight-up fire—smooth, creamy, and that perfect touch of sweetness. The chocolates? Next-level delicious, you can tell they’re made with love. The whole vibe screams passion for quality, from the locally roasted beans to the house-made syrups. Already stoked to become a regular. Keep it up, Small LA!
