Story and Soil Coffee

Crema's Take
“Story and Soil is a Hartford gem that takes its espresso seriously, with reviewers consistently praising shots that rank among the best they've had—the hot Spanish latte is a standout. Beyond the coffee craft, there's a genuine warmth to the place: friendly baristas who'll chat about their technique, cozy communal vibes that feel less like a transient laptop spot and more like a gathering place, and thoughtful touches like a customer notes board that connects you to the local Hartford community. Whether you're lingering over a breakfast burrito and cold brew or settling in with your work, the artsy, inviting atmosphere makes it feel like the kind of neighborhood anchor worth planning your morning around.”

Stopped by this cute coffee shop in Hartford , CT. I ordered a coffee cake muffin , egg, chorizo and cheese on a hard roll and a cold brew iced coffee. I thought everything was pretty good except the fact that my sandwich was barely warm. Definitely sticking to the coffee here. Staff was friendly and this establishment is dog friendly ( well behaved dogs only)
Lovely staff! I was there on a weekend morning, so the place was a tad busy at times, but the baristas were nevertheless friendly, patient with my questions on the way they typically make the drinks, and very obliging with any desired adjustments. Subjectively, the coffee was somewhat too third-wave for my personal taste, but, objectively, it was well made; my one qualm was the lack of perceptible crema in their espresso, but I suspect that might be due to the lightness of the roast, and it was still enjoyable. The cups for the espresso drinks are rather characterful; non-standard, but not unpleasantly, and, for those who care about aesthetics, fitting with the design of the place. Everything was clean, and the restroom had nice toilet paper. It's not very large, but the space has been used rather effectively, and there is ample seating; neighboring conversations will be audible, but not so loud that one cannot work. Overall, quite a nice place, and an effective counterbalance to the maddening effects of cramming.
Some of the best espressos I've ever had. Recommend the hot Spanish latte. Breakfast burritos are good too. Love the vibe. Wish they opened earlier so I could go on my way to work.
Super cute cafe! Lots of people around so it felt really cozy, I loved the atmosphere. They had a small board with notes from customers and events happening in CT which I thought was really nice. Their coffee is amazing, I had the spanish latte and I loved it, can’t wait to go back for more. I was worried parking would be an issue but I went after work on a weekday and had no problems, not sure how it gets on weekends though.
I recently visited Story and Soil and had a great experience. The interior is super cool, with a trendy, artsy vibe that makes it a perfect spot to relax or get some work done. The outdoor seating is also a great option when the weather is nice! I tried the espresso tonic, and it was incredible! My sister got an iced latte, which she loved as well – smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. Overall, Story and Soil is a fantastic place for coffee lovers. Highly recommend checking it out!
