Birdhouse Coffee

Crema's Take
“This espresso-focused spot in Glastonbury has earned serious praise for their lattes and seasonal specialty drinks, with regulars raving about creative offerings like their cinnamon bun pumpkin latte. The outdoor seating area makes for a pleasant morning visit, though reviews suggest the kitchen's execution is inconsistent—while the coffee itself rarely disappoints, food quality has become a sticking point for many. If you're coming for expertly-pulled shots and pour overs rather than a full breakfast experience, you'll likely leave satisfied.”

A few years ago, this was my favorite and go-to place for breakfast sandwiches. Unfortunately, the food has gone downhill and after having issues with my orders multiple times, I'll skip this place for breakfast and go elsewhere. Today, I ordered online for pickup. I clearly stated in the order to hold the chili maple on the Sunrise Sizzler and add chili maple on the Sweet & Spicy. I should have checked the sandwiches when I picked up the order but since my clear instructions were printed on the receipt that was stapled to the bag, I figured they got it right. Boy, was I wrong. It's as if they didn't even read it. Chili maple drizzle was on the Sunrise Sizzler and it was not on the Sweet & Spicy. And I wouldn't call it a drizzle. There were wet brown spots on the inside of the bottom bagel, as if they dabbed or brushed a bit on. In addition, the bagels must have been toasted for 2 seconds because they were dry and doughy, not at all crunchy or crispy. It was like pulling a bagel out of a bag and eating it that way. The one positive is that my order was ready on time but everything else was a huge disappointment, especially at $11-$12 per sandwich.
Took a morning drive to this place since hearing so much about their coffee and it did not disappoint. I got an iced latte with cinnamon bun pumpkin situation and it was so good. We got bagels with cream cheese which came quickly. Nice space to work, or to just chat and hangout with friends!
coffee was good, extremely mid and flavorless food. hotel eggs, canned spinach, and fake avocado spread. shouldn’t be paying $15 for food that’s not even fresh.
Their lattes have been some of the best I have found in this area of CT. And they have a nice outdoor seating spot. However, their service is not welcoming at all. Every interaction I have had ordering has been cold and staff doesn’t seem to know how to engage customers. I was going to order food till I saw a fly on the food. Also very over priced.
I review this place as a kitchen for Connecticut Valley Brewing Company. If you treat this place as a standalone coffee shop, then you experience may vary. I came to the taproom and decided to try food from Birdhouse, as this place now serves as a kitchen for the brewery. Unfortunately, my overall experience was underwhelming. We ordered a pizza, fried pickles and a cream cheese Danish. You receive bakery items immediately from the shelf, but the wait time for all the rest is pretty long. I visited this place on Monday which is not the busiest of days. Fried pickles were ready within about 20 minutes, while pizza came out only after 40 minutes wait. The fried pickles were not good. They were crisp up to the point of being burnt, not juicy at all. I can tell that the spices they used were pretty good, but the way they fried them ruined the taste. The pizza was a similar experience - not only the crust was burnt and just too dry, it was also uneven. So some of the slices were chewy. And again, the pizza filling is good (albeit, quite salty), but the preparation was bad. The Danish was fine. I liked it, but my wife didn't.
