Crema's Take
“Cocoa Bakery is a beloved Jersey City gem where exceptional house-made pastries—think fudgy brownies, elaborate cakes, and inventive vegan cupcakes—steal the spotlight alongside carefully crafted espresso drinks in a welcoming neighborhood spot. The Heights location has earned a devoted following for its thoughtful baking and responsible baristas, making it the kind of place where you could easily become 90% brownie as one fan cheerfully admitted. It's where locals go for both casual coffee moments and special occasion custom cakes, creating that rare small-business magic that keeps people coming back.”

This one of the most amazing small businesses to have a home in JC. i love all of their stuff, some more than others (my body is 90% brownie!). They have the best cakes, brownies, bars, peanutbutter pie and EVERYTHING is served with a smile, whether its the owner or someone at the counter. i hope they thrive for years and years to come! ♥️
Ordered a latte here in the morning on Friday and it was disappointing to say the least. $6.45 for a small sized cup latte and when I was watching the barista making the espresso machine literally dripped 5-6 drops of espresso. When he put it in the latte it was all milk, it barely changed colors. Barista didn’t even mix the latte, and when I say 5-6 drops I mean it. On the menu the latte claimed double shot. When I mentioned it to the barista he said it’s “just how the machine roasts it”. Clearly the barista isn’t knowledgeable enough to use an espresso machine or he just didn’t care because he brushed me off after I mentioned it to him and I just walked away with a cup of milk and caramel flavoring. Drove to Dunkin’ Donuts to get an espresso shot and make it right myself. Very disappointing in the service. $6.45 for a latte that was all milk. Won’t be coming back here again. There’s way better coffee shops in the area.
3 years ago I was looking for a good local cake spot for my boyfriend's birthday. When I purchased - a custom chocolate cake with: - chocolate mousse, - vanilla buttercream, - and cookie pearls... I was not expecting that it would become an annual tradition! My boyfriend loved that first cake, saying it is the best birthday cake he has ever had. Since then, I have been ordering the same cake from Cocoa Bakery every year for his birthday and it does not disappoint. This year, I threw my boyfriend a birthday party. His guests independently said Cocoa Bakery's cake was the best birthday cake they have had as well. Thanks Cocoa Bakery for the consistency! This year I also decided to ask Cocoa Bakery to decorate the two cakes I ordered. I didn't know what to expect after they said they could match my proposed designs...but what I received was beautiful and so fun! Yes, my boyfriend is an adult man haha, but I love going all out for him with a theme or two...and Cocoa Bakery helped accomplish my visions!! *Note: if you are planning to ask for a decorated cake, please reach out to Cocoa Bakery and give them a 2 weeks heads up min. ALSO when I went to pick up the cakes I found out they just started doing UberEATS...the snacks they have there look delicious so I will definitely be ordering from them for a casual snack too!
Located in the heights, at the intersection of Congress st and Central Ave, had this place in my bucket list for a while! The ambiance is good and the service is good, the barista was pretty responsive which I liked. Coming to the food, I ordered signature hot chocolate and quiche. The signature hot chocolate seems to be made from dark chocolate, it was a bit bitter than expected and overall it felt okay whereas the quiche was creamy but the quantity seemed less compared to the cost they charged. Overall, they have some good pastry options but it's on the expensive side. Definitely worth a try once!
I went here for a treat and something to drink with my husband. We enjoyed the lemonade a lot. It wasn’t to sweet or sour. The vegan cupcake was okay, it was to much cocoa for me personally but may be perfect for others. My husband had the Oreo cake truffle and though it it was good. The atmosphere it’s self was very inviting and the customer service was top tier !
