Crema's Take
“This charming local chocolate factory offers a hands-on factory tour and museum experience that captures the magic of candy-making, though visitors should temper expectations about sample sizes. The real standout here is their popcorn and chocolate-covered treats—particularly their creative flavored popcorn varieties like Peanut Butter Crunch—which deliver genuinely high-quality bites that justify a stop if you're passing through on I-80. It's a sweet, family-friendly spot for a quick edible adventure, just know that the premium pricing and modest tour portions mean you're paying for the experience and novelty as much as the product itself.”

We drove 1.5 hours to take this tour and were extremely disappointed. The price was much higher than the value. We sampled 3 pieces of chocolate for a tour that cost $20/person. The most disappointing part was that none of the machines were even operating. The ticket sales representative did not disclose this prior to selling us the tour tickets and the website did not have any notice regarding non-operating dates. Again, we would not have driven 3 hours round-trip to taste three chocolates and see a non-operating factory. At the very least, they should have been transparent about the factory not being in operation that day and given a discount. The "museum" at the beginning of the tour was nice, but we didn't even get to read anything. The tour guide talked the whole time and hurried us along. After the tour, I asked if I could go back into the museum to see the items we missed and actually read the information, and they told us "no". Seriously, do NOT waste your time.
First time here. It's a nice small local tourist stop off the interstate. The popcorn and pretzels are good, and they have a large variety of flavors, but it can get kind of pricey trying to try a little of everything. Would recommend if in the area.
My husband and I took the chocolate factory tour and were left disappointed. We sampled a chocolate-covered pretzel and a chocolate-covered cherry, but unfortunately, neither tasted very good. While we did get to see how the chocolate pretzels were made, that was the only part of the factory that appeared to be in operation. The rest of the tour mainly consisted of a brief history about the origins of chocolate with the Aztecs, which felt more like a presentation than an immersive factory experience. Save your $20.
Oh wow!!! This popcorn. It’s so good. Such high quality and tasty morsels. Every bite is different. I ordered the Peanut Butter Crunch and I highly recommend!!!!! There is chocolate coating the caramel popcorn and some peanut butter balls thrown in. The crunch is heavenly and the taste is SO FRESH!!! They packaged and shipped this and it’s done so professionally they even in the heat index of 90° nothing melted!!! So impressed. I can’t wait to visit in person. Their customer service is top notch. They truly care about their products. Well done!!
The opening day at the South Bend Chocolate Factory & Tours, featuring the debut of the Chocolate Museum, was a fascinating experience, albeit with a few minor hitches. The museum provides an educational journey through the intriguing history of chocolate, tracing its roots back to Mayan civilization, and culminates with a tour of the production facility. Unfortunately, the factory wasn't fully operational during our visit due to ongoing configurations. This was a slight disappointment as part of the allure is seeing the chocolate-making process in action. However, the staff informed visitors it would be a few weeks until everything is operational. For those particularly interested in seeing the factory at full capacity, it might be wise to plan a visit a bit later to enjoy the complete experience. Despite this, the visit was still very enjoyable. We were presented with Mayan cocoa symbolic chocolates as a commemorative gift for opening day, which were both delicious and a charming addition to the experience. The staff was exceptionally friendly and eager to engage with guests, answering questions and sharing insights throughout the tour. I'm looking forward to returning to the South Bend Chocolate Factory & Tours to see the facility in full swing. The museum is well-curated and offers a deep dive into the rich history of chocolate, making it a worthwhile visit for both chocolate lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
