DeBeen Espresso
709 W Lexington Ave, Greensboro, NC
Crema's Take
“DeBeen Espresso has earned genuine loyalty from regulars who appreciate both the carefully crafted espresso drinks and the warm personalities behind the counter—baristas like Gabriella and Mille are clearly the heart of this place. The cozy, fountain-adorned space strikes a rare balance between energizing study spot and unhurried meeting destination, with customers drawn back again and again even after rough days, suggesting the shop's commitment to improvement and community resonates deeply. While service consistency seems to be a work in progress, the espresso-focused craft and the palpable care from the team make this local favorite worth returning to.”

About seven months ago, I left a negative review after a bad experience. I kept coming back quietly, and I’m so glad I did. This place has become one of my favorite spots. It really goes to show that one negative experience shouldn’t define your entire perspective of a person or a place. This coffee shop feels so homey, the coffee always hits, and it’s my go-to spot for studying or a quick coffee date with my husband. I’m grateful to live so close. Hands down the best place for a snow-day coffee. Thanks, guys. ☕️
Thank you to Gabriella and Mille, tonight for this lovely macchiato. I always love coming here when my two favorite Baristas are working. I love to see there bright faces. They light up the place and make really good drink. Thank y’all again for another lovely day.
Was in here on Monday, January 12 studying. Coffee was great, but service was HORRIBLE. I used to enjoy this location because of the chill enviroment. Since I knew they closed at 9:00 pm, I was keeping watch of the time while I was there. At 8:50 pm, a few minutes before I was going to pack up and leave, a barista (black hair) turned off the lights on me. I was left totally in the dark, and had to gather my things in darkness. I saw her glance at me from the side of her eye. I have never encountered such rude service and I will never be back. Based on other negative reviews about the staff, DeBeen needs to hire friendlier staff.
I was so excited to come here finally, as I like to support local and not chains / corporations, and I will continue to visit with some adjustments. First, I am a big coffee drinker, former longtime barista, and a bit of a fiend- so take that as you will. I walked in, wasn’t greeted at all, as the two staff members continued to have a conversation while totally ignoring me for several minutes. They weren’t preparing anything or missed me coming in- just straight ignoring me until I finally spoke up because- awkward! I ordered a large latte and asked how many shots it came with- only 2! This is the first locally owned coffee shop I’ve encountered that only includes 2 shots with a large latte- everyone else is 3-4. I added an extra shot but honestly I’m not sure if they remembered to add it because I was given essentially a cup of over steamed milk. This explains the lower prices everyone talks about, but everywhere else you get more for less than I paid for sure. If you don’t like espresso, this is perfect for you! I usually go for a quad espresso but my total was already $8 for 3 shots total. I wasn’t happy with my drink and didn’t finish it, but I enjoyed the seating and vibes so much that I’ll definitely be back and will try a cortado, brewed coffee, or a tea instead. I’ve heard great things about this place so I will keep coming back, just not for my usual order at other coffee shops. I think the barista also may need more training honestly because my milk was split, boilinggg hot, and watery- shame because they use homeland creamery which is awesome of them. I will update my review next time I go in and still totally recommend!
This is a great, cozy little spot! It’s got an indoor fountajn, some cozy couches, some good places to study and work quietly as well. My one recommendation is to add some small cushions and pillows to the wood seating for more comfort, and maybe some tabletop games to play as well. The drinks are made pretty well! They do not skimp on the milk.
