Crema's Take

Shadwell Market is a charming roadside stop near Keswick where home-cooked meals shine when they're done right—their bacon cheeseburger and fried chicken have earned genuine enthusiasm from satisfied customers. The spot offers a relaxed vibe with both indoor seating and picnic tables outdoors, making it perfect for families or travelers who want to linger over a meal rather than rush through. While their execution can be inconsistent, at their best they deliver the kind of made-to-order comfort food that justifies a detour off the beaten path.

The only positive about this was the fried chicken was pretty tasty. It came with a roll which was hard and they didn't even give me butter to go with it. I wanted French fries but they didn't have any fried and they acted like it was going to be so much trouble to throw them in the deep fryer that I opted for the potato wedges which were already cooked. The people were so unfriendly. The man at the counter let me stand there for a while before asking me what I wanted. I was the only person ordering. This was my first time stopping here and it will definitely be my last time. It has potential to be a cute place but not with the people working there now.

The food here. Esp the breakfast is absolutely trash. The biscuits are like trying to bite through paper. The steak was full of nothing but fat. I couldnt bite through it. The bacon i tried the other day was half way decent but again the bread absolute inedible. The eggs rubber. Youre asking a whole lot of money for a biscuit i have to now throw out the window and hope the birds will eat it. Worst food in central va. Do not eat here! 🤮

Holy moly!!! I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries cooked to order. I’ll tell you what, absolutely one of the best bacon cheeseburgers I’ve ever had, and the fries were perfect. The burger size was crazy, and super juicy, and had extremely fresh toppings, and nice real bacon. The fries were perfectly crisp and hot and fluffy on the inside. I’ll absolutely be eating there again anytime I work out here.

Convenient spot to stop when you're on the road. I tried the Gembos Plantain Chips, they aren't as good as Chifles. If you aren't, gluten, dairy and soy free like me, you can probably find something to eat in their hot food section.

This is a hidden gem along a two lane backroad headed to Charlottesville. They have home cooked meals for take out our you can sit at one of their tables or out on the picnic tables to enjoy your meal. I favor the catfish dinner with two sides, it is delicious. Miss Judy makes different sides and they are the best, I had Brussels sprouts and corn with my catfish today. If you Don want fish or chicken livers or chicken wings just get a home made sandwich. They also sell gas !
