The Roasting House
55 N C Street, Carson City, NV
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Carson City, The Roasting House roasts their own coffee in-house, delivering exceptionally clean and balanced espresso drinks that highlight bright citrus and cocoa notes with silky crema—a real standout for espresso purists. Beyond the excellent coffee, they've earned genuine appreciation for thoughtful details like dedicated gluten-free preparation equipment and creative vegetarian options, making it feel like a place that genuinely cares about accommodating different needs. Fair warning: while the coffee and specialty drinks are consistently praised, the food execution can be uneven, so the real draw here is grabbing a pour over or Americano alongside a pastry rather than banking on a full breakfast.”

This place exceeded all my expectations. My husband went in to grab a breakfast sandwich and I was just tagging along and not expecting to order anything but when I realized they roast their own coffee beans, I had to order a coffee. NO REGRETS because that is one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while! I ordered and iced latte with dark brown sugar and pistachio and it was incredible. Combine that with the incredible patio view and this was one of my favorite stops in Virginia City. My husband said his breakfast sandwich was pretty good too and I tasted his homefries and they were very well seasoned. I failed to take any pictures other than of the roaster.
We had breakfast here. The food was ok - the waffle was a little overcooked and flavorless, and the egg scramble was good but the toast was barely toasted and served with cold butter. The staff seemed disinterested and sort of upset to have customers come in. We won’t come back here. The view from the deck was nice though.
Stopped by The Roasting House and ordered an Americano — excellent. Clean, balanced cup with a silky crema, medium-bodied and steady from first sip to finish. Brightness lands in the citrus/cocoa lane without tipping sour; no burnt or bitter edge. Temperature and dilution were on point (tastes like a 2:1 water-to-espresso ratio), letting the espresso’s character shine instead of washing it out. Barista was friendly and precise, dialed in the shot, and had the drink out fast. Space is comfortable for a quick pause or laptop session, with a calm soundtrack and plenty of natural light. A well-pulled Americano that respects the roast and the recipe. If you judge a café by its basics, The Roasting House passes with ease.
I've never been to virgina city and was in town for my brother's wedding. I have celiac and saw they offered gluten free, I went in and asked, they said they make everything on separate equipment and as safe as they can. Im a very sensitive celiac and I DID NOT get sick at all from eating here!! Would highly recommend if youre there!!
If your looking for a lite vegetarian option in Virginia city look no further than here. This bagel sandwich was absolutely amazing. Let me just say artichoke. I was a little sad at the state of the grilled cheese but the flavor of the garlic butter they used was absolutely a game changer. And the sunset smoothie was delicious.
