Camino Real Mexican Restaurant is located in the Indian Square Shopping Center. This is just past the intersection with Kempsville Rd. I have visited this business several times now, and my most recent visit was on February 14, 2026. When coming to this place, if you are coming from Ferrell Pkwy, you'll need to go straight through the traffic light at Kempsville Rd. You'll need to make a U-turn at the U-turn traffic light just past that intersection. There is an ice cream shop in front of the building close to entering. The first visit here (December 31, 2025) was unplanned, as I was planning to go to another place nearby as I had a birthday offer that I needed to use before the end of the month, but they were so packed I gave up and that is what landed my mom and I here at Camino Real instead. Pulling up, it wasn't hard to find the place, and it wasn't overly busy either. There was plenty of parking available. When you come up to the entrance, there is an outdoor seating area (not open for the time of year on these visits). Once you come inside, you will see their bar area and a host/hostess stand to check in to be seated. The overall ambiance and vibe I felt coming in was a casual but a bit more upscale. My mom and I were seated in the main dining area of the restaurant. It didn't take long for someone to bring out the chips, salsa, and white sauce. Our server was quick to come over and ask what we wanted to drink and to let him know if we had any questions about the menu. The drinks came pretty quick, but we weren't sure yet on the entrees. However, we did order the Carne Con Queso appetizer. After the appetizer came out, we were finally ready to order the entrees. My mom decided on the Fajita Taco Salad with ground beef instead of steak. I decided to go with the Burrito Cali with Chicken, but without the rice. About ten minutes or so later, the food came to the table, and it was good timing as we had just finished the appetizer. Both entrees were hot, so it took a moment to start off with them. The Burrito Cali had a great mix of complementing flavors. The burrito may have looked small, but it was much bigger than expected. It was quite an indulgence for me, and it was so good. My mom loved the Fajita Taco Salad, which was also quite flavorful. She told me this was one of the best versions of a Fajita Taco Salad she has had. Given the experience on the first visit, we came back for a second visit on February 14, 2026. On this visit, seating and such was very similar to the first visit, including the chips, salsa and white sauce. This time though, the appetizer ordered was the Fresh Guacamole Azteca (without jalapeños). It took a few moments for that to come to the table, but that was expected as it was made fresh to order. That guacamole was amazing. It had a great flavor to it, and it was a good size too. This will continue to be an option to choose from for me in the future. When it came to entrees this time, I ordered the Burrito Chipotle with grilled chicken this time. My mom got the Quesadilla Fajita entree with steak. Just like the prior visit, it took about ten minutes or so after ordering for the food to come out. They came out hot once again. The Burrito Chipotle was different from the one I had at the first visit, but this one was just as good, and it had a nice kick to it as well, which I would expect for that. The ingredients complemented each other well in that burrito. My mom liked the Quesadilla Fajita as well, though she said she really liked the Fajita Taco Salad she had the first time better, so I can see her getting the Fajita Taco Salad on a future visit. Overall, both visits here to this point have been great. We have plans to come back here in the future to try other items available. Service was on point in both visits. I don't remember by how much, but there is a service charge if you use a card instead of cash to pay. I would definitely call this place an experience, and you should try them out and experience it as well.
A quiet little lunch for myself while my husband was buying guns a couple doors down. My first time here, but won't be my last; The food is delicious!
First of, the place is decorated super nice, It is so beautiful and the tables are vibrant and gorgeous. The lady who attends in the front is super nice and very professional. The waiter that I had was super attentive and came to check on us to make sure everything was great. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos and a Mango Drink. My daughter ordered their kids meal of chicken fingers and fries and had the strawberry Drink. One thing that did disappointed me, being Mexican was the Tacos. The tortilla breaks fast, the meat was not properly seasoned to take like Carne Asada and there was more cilantro and onion than meat. The Mango drink was extremely watered down. My daughter really liked her meal which makes me happy. I gave three stars because of the food, not the people. Def. Not authentic Mexican Cuisine. More Americanized. TEXMEX type of food. If you like spicy, def will not find it here. (Ps. I did came here at 4:30 pm, there was just 2 people eating) Anyway, I’ll still come back and try other meals. Maybe they taste much better. Still recommend people to come and try it for yourself.
Local Guadalajara flavor found hidden right here in Virginia Beach! When you think Mexican, a few places come to mind. Some better than others but the flavors, in one way or another, are practically the same. Then you find Camino Real, authentic Jalisco, Mexican flavor hidden in the corner shop off Indian River Rd. The food, made with passion. The beer, cold as physics will allow. The tequila, well.. let's just say you get what you pay for and then some. I have planted my flag and claimed my stake in this glorious place as my go-to for authentic Spanish flavor. What was it that was so special to give such a dictation you ask? The Barria tacos... Slow roasted LAMB!! Yes I said it...lamb with cilantro, onions, that amazing cheese and a delicious stock wrapped in a slightly crispy corn tortilla. Served with a green sauce that could go on anything and a bowl of Mexican rice drowning in roasted onions cilantro and that delicious lamb stock as mentioned before. This dish will bring alive your sences and make you question your Mexican restaurant loyalties. Coupled with their homemade salsa and chips with sizeable chunks of onion and cilantro, you have question that this sauce did not come from a jar. Finally, wash it all down with an ice cold Dos Equis in an enormous frosted mug. This combo is sure to have your taste buds singing a Spanish symphony. Don't take my word for it, come try for yourself you will not be disappointed!!!
We were passing through and had a craving for Mexican food. We are so glad we found this place! What an awesomely delightful lunch we had! As soon as we sat down we received salsa, chips and a smooth and creamy sweet and spicy dip. My husband and I ordered salads. Mine was an avacado stuffed with crab and my husband and the zucchini stuffed with crab. Both were exceptionally good! Service was great! The decor is very festive and prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
