Butterjoy Bakery
965 S Clinton Ave, Rochester, NY
Crema's Take
“This unassuming Rochester spot is a croissant destination that's worth seeking out despite its deliberately understated storefront—reviewers rave about impossibly flaky, buttery layers that feel almost transcendent, especially in the almond croissant and savory breakfast iterations. Beyond the pastries that have earned them features on "Eat Local NY," they're equally committed to quality ingredients, with diners noting the brightness of fresh-baked items and what appears to be carefully sourced local sausage. It's a quick grab kind of place where the baked goods do the talking, making it perfect for anyone chasing that perfect croissant fix.”

I was recommended this place from a coworker and the YouTube channel "Eat Local NY". I have always loved croissants and these ones are AMAZING. So many layers of flaky dough with lots of flavor. This place does sell out on occasions (from what I've been told) so I would get here early. There's not a parking lot, but there is some street parking. I would definitely come back here.
The delicious, delectable, crunchy, flaky, buttery, layers of joy are absolutely heavenly. The almond croissant was pure perfection. I closed my eyes and was transported places I’ve never been. The cinnamon swirl was densely light a balance that brought another smile to another face. Highly recommend to everyone. Another simple joy, they had a vegan coffee cake that is going to make my daughter the absolute happiest when she wakes up! Thank you!!
First the place looks “closed” and run down from the outside. No open sign. Next the women at counter had an attitude like she didn’t want to be there. The croissants had so much air. They were just crust very little inside texture. The price for juice coffee and four pastries came to $41.30! Between the price of the pastries, coffee and juice and the storefront location without an open sign this place won’t stay open very long and is overrated. The butterscotch pastry had so much filling it was overpowering and way too sweet. The cinnamon roll, chocolate scone was also bland. Everything was bland. Not going back.
Saw Butterjoy reviewed by Eat Local guy and had to come check it out for myself. Absolutely amazing flavor and freshness in all of the items I got. Cinnamon roll, the croissants, butterscotch cruffin and the breakfast croissant were all great and I can’t wait to return here again soon.
Flakey croissants. I got the sausage egg and cheese croissant and it was delicious it tasted like they used high quality local sausage not jimmy deans. Also tried the cookie dough filled bow perfect balance of sweet with the buttery croissant outer shell this place is a must try 🥐
