Cafeteria La Loma

1515 E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN

★★★★4.4(301 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

This beloved Minneapolis spot is legendary for tamales that locals swear rival those found in LA, with particular devotion to their banana leaf varieties and traditional Mexican hot drinks like champurrado and atole served in charming little cups. Beyond the exceptional masa work, Cafeteria La Loma offers a genuine neighborhood feel where you can grab breakfast and pastries quickly or settle in for a slower sit, making it equally welcoming whether you're rushing out the door or lingering over their specialty beverages. Fair warning: the shady surrounding area requires some street smarts, but regulars agree the authentic food and warm family-friendly atmosphere make the trip absolutely worthwhile.

Best Tamales on earth. Fresh, flavorful and incredibly delicious. The banana leaf ones are moist, tender, flavorful, and out of this world. If you don’t like their tamales, you just don’t like tamales.

los tamales omg, son deliciosos pero el champurrado y el atole de maíz😮‍💨 I could drink it every day and never get tired of it, it’s SO GOOD and they have those cute little cups, me encanta🥰

Please just be aware the veggie and cheese tamales contain pork lard. As of now, it does not say this on the online ordering menu. I bought a bunch for an event and couldn't bring because we were not allowed to bring pork out of respect for the Muslim families in attendance.

Best tamales in all Minneapolis! I grew up in LA and was unsure if I could find good quality Mexican tamales in Minneapolis and I was not disappointed with La Loma. Recommend the tamales verdes de pollo or the tamales rojos de Quaxaca. $4 each tamal
