Barzakh Cafe
147 Utica Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Crema's Take
“Barzakh Cafe is a rare gem where exceptional coffee and tea culture thrives alongside live music and genuine hospitality—owner Atigh has created something that feels less like a commercial space and more like stepping into someone's welcoming home. The menu spans thoughtful specialty drinks and matcha alongside light food, but what really sets this place apart is the palpable community energy, where you're as likely to catch local musicians creating art as you are to find couples celebrating their weddings or friends lingering over meaningful conversations.”

What a beautiful place that is. You can always walk in and witness great musicians creating amazing art, no matter who's playing. And the owner, Atigh, so kind and personable. Barzakh became a favorite of mine very quickly.
My partner and I had our wedding ceremony here and it was absolutely lovely. The owner Atigh and the rest of the staff are hospitable and enormously helpful. Every interaction we had with them felt authentic and warm. They were nice to Everyone and the atmosphere is both beautifully colorful and cozy. Perfect for an intimate wedding. We had about 40 or so people, and with tables and chairs set up it was more than enough room. We were able to arrange the place as we pleased and the owner did several walk through with us. It was a sharp contrast with the range of other venues we reached out to. Many other places felt corporate and like they were trying to squeeze more money out of us. Barzakh was also so so affordable and very flexible with us setting up early and lingering afterwards. It's a really special, community oriented place. I'm so happy somewhere like this exists in ny.
is one of those rare places that just pulls you in. The vibe is incredible live music, amazing food, and an atmosphere that feels more like a community than a bar/café. It’s like stepping into a portal where everything feels welcoming and connected. Definitely worth a visit.
This place is incredible! What an amazing energy this place has. We ordered one of everything on the menu and had a feast for lunch. The person behind the counter was super friendly and inviting, he encouraged us to look around while he was getting the food ready. The book store in the back had a great selection of books, covering a lot of genres. It’s so cozy back there, decorated nicely. As we ate, a group met up for a learning Arabic meeting, which was nice to listen in on. The food was delicious! It reminds me of some of my favorite places in the world. A place where you can have a nice tea and get comfy, where they encourage community and you can have a great time by just being in the space. Totally invigorating; you just absorb good feelings and energy while kicking back with a book. I can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely amazing place with a real community atmosphere. Rare and unique to find somewhere that makes you feel like you are being welcomed into someone’s home. Delicious food and tea with super friendly and attentive service. I can’t wait to come back to read more of the vintage thought provoking books!
