Crema's Take
“Sugah Please brings authentic Southern comfort to Grand Rapids with standout dishes like shrimp and grits that'll have you savoring every bite—the kind of place where the food is clearly made with real care and attention. The warm, vibrant atmosphere draws both locals and visitors looking for a genuine sit-down experience, though fair warning: this beloved spot gets busy enough that you might wait a bit for a table, but the hospitality and attentive staff make it worth the patience.”

We had the most absolute horrible time at this establishment. I don't typically go to the one at home so I damn sure didn't want to go this one, but my friends insisted waited 40 minutes for a table after he tried to sit two other parties ahead of us. They didn't have any coffee or any tea but it's a burnt spot that makes no sense. Also waited on our food for an over an hour and 10 minutes. We were about to leave and we had to get to waitress so that we can pay for the items that we did receive. And by the way do not order the fried green tomatoes. They are as thin as paper. Not understanding why something cost $12 and we're getting paper thin tomatoes. I got two scrambled eggs. They were $5 and also when my food came out I had fried catfish and french toast originally that meal was supposed to be three chicken wings and french toast. Needless to say, I got one piece of soaked triple dipped and oil catfish along with one piece of French toast for $26. I can't make this up guys. Needless to say truly disappointed. Sent my food back and did not eat. The manager did bring me a platter of their waffle fries which were delicious. Other than that customer service was horrible. Will never patronize this one in Grand rapids nor the one in Detroit. Stay clear of this place. The food is not given what it say it is. I was so sad I had waited 2 hours for food that's including the weight and including sitting at the table and I was absolutely done when they said they didn't have any coffee 🤔😫😭😰 sugaah please do better.
This is the best southern cuisine I’ve tried in GR! Best shrimp and grits I’ve ever eaten in my entire life! My friend and I were shamelessly licking our plates towards the end of the meal. My only “critique” is that I wish they served coffee to compliment their outstanding beignets, because good god they were delicious and made me crave coffee! Can’t wait to come back again!
First off, let me say that the atmosphere was amazing, the vibes were on point. My wife and I had been waiting to try this place and for the most part it lived up to the hype outside of ONE MAJOR ISSUE. I ordered the chicken wings with French toast and the chicken wings were NOT cooked all the way. Once I notified the server she apologized and immediately took care of the issue. My wife enjoyed her meal and outside of the chicken everything else was delicious especially the lemon cream cheese icing on the French toast. I'd try them again so I'm recommending you give them a try just maybe stay away from the chicken.
The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care — everything we ordered was delicious. What really stood out though was the service. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. Definitely excited to come back and support this place. Highly recommend checking it out!
We are up in Grand Rapids for a date weekend from the Chicago area. The food was delicious!!! The atmosphere was great & the service was amazing, very friendly - loved the host & waitress. The owner was walking around checking on tables, which is always so appreciative because it shows how much they value feedback. Everything was seasoned perfectly!! The eggs and potatoes were seasoned so well, I did not need to add anything to them. Typically breakfast is boring, and I need hot sauce or salt/pepper, but this was great just the way it came. The bacon also was cooked perfectly! 5 stars for sure!!! Highly recommend!
