Sweet Moment
106 Mott St, New York, NY
Crema's Take
“Sweet Moment is a cozy neighborhood spot in Manhattan where you can linger over thoughtfully crafted drinks and creative desserts, from silky matcha lattes to their signature shaved ice and unique pudding offerings. The warm, spacious atmosphere draws families and friends for long sit-downs, though the execution can be inconsistent—their tea and coffee shine, but some of their more Instagram-worthy frozen desserts don't always deliver on the hype. It's the kind of place where you'll find genuine hospitality from sweet staff, even if not every visit lives up to the TikTok promise.”

It's warm and cozy in here. Good amount of seating. Their coffee is good. The shaved ice is too. Their banana pudding good, but is very sweet. I loved their earl gray pudding. I didn't take a picture the first two times I bought it last month and before, but I could've sworn it was a shade or two darker. Also the ones I bought in the past week, on two different days, did not travel as well as the ones prior (and it's been colder outside). The top foam/cream(?) layer has arrived just slightly liquidy. Nothing crazy, but I was not expecting it. I still enjoyed them but I was more addicted to them back in Dec.
It was amazing, and the workers were very sweet and friendly. I’m not really a fan of milky desserts, but they had a lot of different options. I tried the waffle option, and it was a great dessert very filling and satisfying. We dined in, and the atmosphere was great. It’s a nice place to study and get work done several people around us were doing the same. It was also pretty packed when we went, which shows how popular it is.
This was definitely anything but a Sweet Moment. I came here fully influenced by Instagram and TikTok. The shaved ice looked dreamy, fluffy, and full of flavor. What I got instead was a cup of sadness with commitment issues. The shaved ice somehow had no flavor. None. I have had ice cubes straight from my freezer with more personality. Easily the most disappointing dessert I have had in NYC, and I have been living here my whole life, so please take that as you will. I kept waiting for the “sweet moment” to arrive and it never did. Just me, flavorless ice, and regret. If you are craving dessert, keep walking. This was a moment, yes, but sweet it was not. 🍧😐
The cake thing I got seemed like it was frozen but then wasn't defrosted all the way. I honestly couldn't finish and chucked it in the bin. The tea I got was yummy and sour and pretty good. The atmosphere was chill. Nice table. Good place to sit. The ceiling was dusty and the vents could have some cleaning. The walls had a very strange vertical wallpaper that looked off. Honestly not bad though. Decent place to pop into for a hot tea and a rest especially on a rainy day
I tried the iced matcha latte, which was around $7 including tax for the small cup you see here, but I suppose that's par for the Manhattan course. I got it sweetened, it was quite tasty and rich. But what you're really paying for is the ambiance. The social atmosphere is vibrant but not obnoxiously loud, so you can get work done as long as you have noise-cancelling headphones. And they have a restroom which is a huge plus.
