Crema's Take
“Don Cafe is a vibrant Jacksonville gem where authentic Mexican cuisine and genuine hospitality create an unforgettable experience, with walls bursting in colorful murals that set the perfect backdrop for leisurely coffee and breakfast sessions. The owner's reputation from the beloved Casa Leon carries through in every detail—from the perfectly executed traditional dishes like their standout fried ice cream to the consistently warm welcome that makes both regulars and out-of-towners feel like family. This is the kind of place where you'll linger over your café con leche, soak in the traditional Mexican restaurant atmosphere, and leave wishing parking were easier just so you'd have an excuse to come back sooner.”

We found this place on a whim from out of town and do not regret it at all! From the time we walked in to the time we walked out the staff were super nice and welcoming. The vibes were amazing as well. THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS . ( I forgot to take a pic before we started eating ) Best Mexican we have ever had. Thank you to Tony our server he was awesome!
If you love authentic Mexican food we recommend you try this place. The owner is the same owner of the once casa Leon at Mayport road. I am so happy they are closer to us now and the food is as good as I remember. Service was amazing and the drinks and food on point.
Been here a few times. The food is absolutely amazing, highly recommended. Friendly staff too. Parking is a pain. But absolutely worth it!
Great atmosphere paired with genuinely friendly staff. The restaurant features a nicely sized bar area with a separate dining room, and the walls are fully covered in vibrant murals that give the space an authentic, welcoming feel. The staff was attentive and warm throughout our visit, consistently checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. The food arrived well-presented, but the flavor didn’t fully live up to the appearance. The empanadas were very good and easily the highlight, but the tacos were underwhelming and lacked seasoning, which was disappointing since they’re a core item on the menu. One standout feature was the complimentary salsa bar, offering several options ranging from mild to hot. It’s self-serve, so you can sample and enjoy as much as you’d like, which was a great touch. Overall, this restaurant has a lot going for it. With better seasoning on the meats, it could easily earn a 5-star rating.
The food was great, we loved the fried ice cream. My favorite one of many tried so far. The atmosphere was traditional Mexican restaurant style. Our service was very friendly although a bit forgetful. We had to ask for chips for our queso, then for salsa then for straws, refills
