Crema's Take

This Cedar Rapids gem radiates genuine Southern hospitality from the moment you walk in, with a charming vintage-meets-cozy aesthetic (complete with classic Price is Right reruns on one TV) that makes you want to linger over coffee and conversation. The kitchen shines brightest at breakfast and brunch, serving up standout dishes like their Salmon Benedict alongside thoughtfully prepared traditional coffee drinks, all at prices that won't make you wince. It's the kind of place where the staff genuinely knows how to make you feel welcome, earning devoted regulars who consider it their new favorite spot in town.

Very welcoming staff, very cute layout and decor. One tv had very vintage Price is Right on ( which was really cool to see ). And the other with current events/news. Clean floors, clean tables. We started off with a flight of coffee ( iced ) Mocha, Salted Caramel, Smores and Oreo. Only complaint to preference is the ice is too much and it waters down the drink. Presentation was very nice. For our meals we had the Cedar Rapids omelet, and the Country Shipwreck. Both very good. Reasons for the 4 stars on food and atmosphere were solely based on opinion. Atmosphere got very busy and very loud at 9am ( only reason for the 4 stars ) 4 stars on the food was for the watered down iced coffee flight. I know that sort of defeats the iced part of the drink but they are smaller and the amount of ice in them very much changed the profiles of flavor. Service was top notch and extremely friendly and aware of anything we needed at our table. The bathrooms are clean and kept as well. Please take a moment and stop by. Junior is wonderful and this is a very nice establishment.

(9am). Ordered Salmon Benedict with hash browns. My order arrived and I noticed the hash browns were dark and oily. I attempted to take a small bite and it was awful!! Hard and chewy!! They were clearly old hash browns most likely from the night before that they tried to reheat. (This has happened before) I then proceeded to cut into my eggs hoping for a nice runny yolk but that too was overcooked. I waited for my server to come check on me. I noticed she was talking to a co worker while they were rolling silverware so I took my plate up to her and told her what was wrong with it. She had the cooks remake it which was nice. The food came out as expected the second time. The hashbrowns were a light, golden color. They were fresh this time. Eggs cooked perfectly. (9:55am) It took almost an hour from start to finish for 1 person. I will not be back this time. This isn’t the first time they’ve been lazy and tried to serve old , chewy hash browns. It’s not worth my time or the money.

So I walk into Cruz’s Café and immediately it feels like Southern hospitality. The food is absolutely amazing. The staff are very nice and professional and I want to give a big shout out to Mrs Amy thank you so much for making me feel at home. Hands down the best breakfast spot I’ve had in Iowa.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cruz's and I have to say, this place is an absolute gem! As someone who moved to Iowa from Los Angeles two years ago, I have been searching for a breakfast spot that can rival the flavors of my beloved LA breakfasts. Cruz's did not disappoint - it easily ranks in my top 5 breakfast spots in Iowa! During my visit, I tried four different dishes and each one was seasoned to perfection. The cinnamon roll French toast was a standout for me, but the garden omelet and chicken and waffles were also delicious. While the chicken and waffles may not have been on par with Roscoes, it was still great food at a very fair price. The environment at Cruz's is fantastic - the establishment is very clean and has an eclectic vibe that I really enjoyed. It reminded me of some of the top restaurants in Des Moines, like Django and Latin Kings, in terms of quality and atmosphere. During my visit, the place was full and buzzing with happy, friendly, and loyal customers. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, adding to the great experience. Overall, I would highly recommend Cruz's to anyone looking for a top-notch breakfast spot in Iowa. I can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious dishes!
