Hae's Bakery & Coffee Shoppe
3844 Wabash Ave, Springfield, IL
Crema's Take
“Hae's Bakery & Coffee Shoppe is a warmly beloved spot where you can build your own specialty drinks like their made-to-order sugar free Lotus coffee, paired with fresh pastries and hearty breakfast items that locals genuinely crave. The Jefferson location seems to have earned its loyal following for welcoming vibes and delicious execution, though the newer Wabash location appears to still be finding its footing with consistency and staffing.”

Very welcoming and delicious coffee spot. My favorites are an egg and cheese breakfast croissant, and the sugar free Lotus which you can pick from a list or make your own. I have yet to find my favorite coffee drink, but they have adorable seasonal menus with new creations all the time. They also will give you a slight discount if you’re a healthcare worker!
Looove their food but they are always out! I tried coming earlier but that didn’t help. I am starting to think the menu is wrong… we are 0/5 on biscuits and gravy. All the cookies were out too :( at 8am?! I think we will just give up.
This review is specific to the Wabash location. I struggle, but I keep trying. I have been there 4 times in the last 3 months. Three of which the drinks where either made wrong or missing ingredients. Even today, I got the featured latte and it didn't look as pictured. It was missing the sprinkles on top and this was featured for the week. In the past, I have had beverages missing cold foam and different add ins. Based on other reviews, this doesn't seem new. In addition, the staff seems disinterested. Upon one visit, I watched my drink sit in the window, while the young girls that were supposed to be working chatted and talked amongst themselves. They finally acknowledged me so I could get my iced drink (that was sitting in the sunlight) and pay. I want to support local. I keep trying. But I think the issue lies in the customer service and the staff's attention to detail. The young ladies working do not seem interested and I feel it is reflective in customer service and quality. I certainly wish the organization luck. I just think this location needs a bit more support. 8/12/2025 --- Update So I stopped in to try again. Unfortunate mistake. There was already a line of about 3/4 cars when I joined. I waited 5 minutes without any movement at 7:00 AM (shouldn't be too busy). I left the line along with several others. Drove past the window and AGAIN 3 teenagers talking to each other and on phones. I'm sorry, but customers will not continue to be ignored by people who don't care. If you aren't interested in this location, don't have it. I'm sure the overhead is not cheap. Focus on the other locations that you can better support. 12/19/2025 --- Update I tried several time before posting the latest update and I can say there has been a marked change. I have gone probably 5 times in the past several months and it has been timely, accurate, and lovely experience each time. I updated my review to reflect that. It has now become part of my regular rotation of coffee places. So delicious! And check out this beautiful lid artwork this morning! Just adorable and such a sweet surprise.
This was my first time visiting the Wabash location. I usually go on Jefferson, but I was in the area so I figured why not. The staff is so rude at this location. While I was there no customers were greeted, just asked what they wanted. I placed my order ahead online and the cashier acted like I was bothering her for even being there. My drink wasn't even good, which is funny since I order the same thing earlier today at Jefferson, and it was perfect. It seems to be a thread as far as customer service from the other reviews. Pretty sure I won't be returning to this location.
This was my first time going after reading ALL reviews of this location and my overall experience was alright could be better could be worse. The person at the register taking orders inside didn't have a smile and seemed to not really care if I was a costumer or not, didn't greet me, nor have a good attitude about being there. Regardless of that the coffee was alright compared to other places and the breakfast burrito is good and decently sized. Price is lowest compared to other places but I feel you get what you pay for good food and coffee and mediocre customer service. Another note I asked for a mocha and didn't realize till I left but on the receipt it says latte.
